Robert McKinlay was born in Tranent, Scotland 29 October 1832. His parents were George McKinlay and Mary Hamilton. He married Isabell Watson or Wauson (1835-1926) in 1854 in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. They had twelve children. They emigrated in 1875 and settled in Provo, Utah. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Idaho and Utah
