Dvoráks Serenade E-Dur für Streichorchester aus dem Jahr 1875 ist eines der anmutigsten und zugleich auch schon eines der eigenwüchsigen Werke aus seiner Jugendzeit. 3 Jahre später entstand die Serenade d-Moll für Bläser (je 2 Oboen, Klarinetten, Fagotte, 1 Kontrafagott und 3 Waldhörner) mit Violoncello und Kontrabass. Dieses Werk beschwört mit unwiderstehlichem Dvorák'schen Klangzauber ein Rokokoständchen im Stil der Haydn- und Mozartzeit, gepaart mit unüberhörbaren Anklängen an die Musik seiner böhmischen Heimat. - Neben seiner "Sinfonie aus der Neuen Welt" und einer Anzahl Kammermusikwerken gehören die Serenaden zu den bekanntesten und bedeutendsten Werken des Komponisten. Sie sollten daher in vielen Beständen zu finden sein. Bei dieser Wiederveröffentlichung steht einer breiten Anschaffungsempfehlung nichts im Wege, da die Zeitschrift Gramophone schon damals urteilte, dass das Philharmonia Orchestra über "a first-rate body of strings and also of excellent wind players" verfügt.
