"Christopher Robbins has dug deep to explore and substantiate the details of the Michel Thomas story. He has authenticated every episode through camp records, Vichy documents, Resistance papers and U.S. Army reports as well as with hundreds of hours of interviews with the man himself. Today, Michel Thomas teaches languages to inner-city kids, movie stars and heads of industry, succeeding in a matter of days even with people who consider themselves hopeless as linguists. To those who have been taught by him, he seems to have a magical gift for unlocking the secret powers of the mind."--Jacket

The only thing most people know about Kazakhstan is that it is homeland to Borat - and he isn't even real. Actually this vast place - the last unknown inhabited country in the world - is far more surprising and entertaining. For one thing, it is as varied as Europe, combining stupendous wealth, grinding poverty, exotic traditions and a mad dash for modernity. Crisscrossing a vanished land, Christopher Robbins finds Eminem by a shrinking Aral Sea, goes eagle-hunting, visits the scene of Dostoyevsky's doomed first love, takes up residence beside one-time neighbour Leon Trotsky and visits some of

Assassin by Christopher Robbins( )

3 editions published between 1977 and 2013 in English and held by 44 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We took some prisoners and tied them up on the airstrip and left them out in the sun to die. Then we tied some up, put them in a DC3 and pushed them out of the door.' This is the terrifying true story of international assassin Carlos Evertsz as he ricocheted between the high life in London, Madrid and the island paradise of the Dominican Republic - and some of the world's most horrific jails. It is the complete dossier of an agent licensed to kill and who doesn't hesitate to unflinchingly state his own record of shocking atrocities. Written by the journalist who knew him best - even ending up on the assassin's hit list a few times himself - the story is as gripping as it is unbelievable. Also part of Evertsz's weird world is Dr Manuel Sosa, a demonic intelligence chief with a taste for orgies, torture, blackmail, voodoo and murder. It's a scene you will find stranger than fiction - but remember as you read, it is all true

Air America by Christopher Robbins( Book )

Air America - a secret airline run by the CIA - flew missions no one else would touch, from General Claire Cennault's legendary Flying Tigers in WWII to two brutal decades cruising over the bomb-savaged jungles of Southeast Asia. Their pilots dared all and did all - a high-rolling, fast-playing bunch of has-beens and hellraisers whose motto was 'Anything, Anywhere, Anytime'. Whether it was delivering food and weapons or spooks and opium, Air America was the one airline where you didn't need reservations - just a hell of a lot of courage and a willingness to fly to the bitter end
The empress of Ireland : a chronicle of an unusual friendship by Christopher Robbins( Book )

4 editions published between 2004 and 2006 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Welcome to the Magical World of Brian Desmond Hurst ... Christopher Robbins first met Brian Desmond Hurst when he was hired to write the screenplay for the ageing director's swansong. A great raconteur, Brian Desmond Hurst captured the young writer's imagination during their adventures in London, Ireland, Malta and North Africa. The stories of a Belfast Childhood, service in Gallipoli during the First World War and a long film career were told by a master. Aware that he had met the last of a grand and vanishing breed, the author was forever changed by the old director's wit, wickedness, Celtic charm and vast appetite for life. Very funny and genuinely moving, The Empress of Ireland is an inspiring portrait of a true original and Great Spirit - and a rare account of a unique and eccentric friendship

The Ravens by Christopher Robbins( )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Officially the war in Laos did not exist - both North Vietnam and the USA denied they had troops there. In fact, thousands of North Vietnamese were invading the country and pouring down the Ho Chi Minh Trail on their way to the south, and the Americans were fighting a vigorous war against them from the air. The Ravens were the pilots, all volunteers, who flew through heavy groundfire to identify targets and call in air-strikes. Their mission was so secret that they were 'sold' their prop-driven planes for a dollar apiece so they could be struck from US Air Force records. They wore no uniform and carried no identification. Refugees from the bureaucracy of the war in Vietnam, they accepted the murderous casualty rates of what was known as the Steve Canyon Program in return for a life of unrestricted flying and fighting. Devoted to the hill tribesmen they fought alongside, the Ravens did their job with extraordinary skill and crazy courage and with a humour that was all of its own. This is the story, brilliantly told for the first time, of these extraordinary men. Based on extensive interviews with the survivors, it is a tale of undeniable heroism, blending real-life romance, adventure and tragedy
