Für ihre hinreis- senden schauspielerischen Leistungen erhielten beide den Oscar - ein weiterer wurde an das beste Drehbuch vergeben. Fonda - hier auch erstmals mit seiner Tochter Jane zu sehen - konnte die Aus- zeichnung aber wegen eines Herzleidens nicht selbst entgegenneh- men. Er starb 1982. Der Film, 1981 von Mark Rydell inszeniert, wurde zu einem Überraschungserfolg der achtziger Jahre
