Praise for the Third Edition"It is, as far as I'm concerned, among the best books in math ever written ... if you are a mathematician and want to have the top reference in probability, this is it." (Amazon.com, January 2006)A complete and comprehensive classic in probability and measure theoryProbability and Measure, Anniversary Edition by Patrick Billingsley celebrates the achievements and advancements that have made this book a classic in its field for the past 35 years. Now re-issued in a new style and format, but with the reliable content that the third edition was revered for, this Anniver
Convergence of probability measures by Patrick Billingsley ( Book )
32 editions published between 1968 and 2009 in English and held by 1,082 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A new look at weak-convergence methods in metric spaces-from a master of probability theory In this new edition, Patrick Billingsley updates his classic work Convergence of Probability Measures to reflect developments of the past thirty years. Widely known for his straightforward approach and reader-friendly style, Dr. Billingsley presents a clear, precise, up-to-date account of probability limit theory in metric spaces. He incorporates many examples and applications that illustrate the power and utility of this theory in a range of disciplines-from analysis and number theory to statistics, en
Elements of statistical inference by David V Huntsberger ( Book )
30 editions published between 1973 and 1989 in English and Undetermined and held by 917 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This book is intended as an introduction to some of the basic concepts and techniques of statistical inference that play an important role in the solution of problems that arise in many spheres of human activity. It is written in the hope that it will give the reader an appreciation for, and some understanding of, the statistical approach to problems faced by the administrator, the research worker, and other members of our increasingly complex society. The techniques and methods which are presented are those which are generally applicable. Methods that are primarily of interest in but a few areas of application have not been included. This book may serve as a text for a general course for those who want to know "what Statistics is all about, " or who need to be familiar with at least the language and fundamental concepts of Statistics in order to achieve additional competence in their chosen fields"--Preface. Weak convergence of measures: applications in probability by Patrick Billingsley ( Book )
24 editions published between 1971 and 1987 in English and held by 475 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A treatment of the convergence of probability measures from the foundations to applications in limit theory for dependent random variables. Mapping theorems are proved via Skorokhod's representation theorem; Prokhorov's theorem is proved by construction of a content. The limit theorems at the conclusion are proved under a new set of conditions that apply fairly broadly, but at the same time make possible relatively simple proofs

An application of prohorov's theorem to probabilistic number theory ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The pupose of this paper is to give a probabilistic proof of a theorem which contains as special cases certain results about the natural densities of arithmetically interesting sets of integers, results usually conjectured on probabilistic grounds but proved by nonprobabilistic methods. The principle tool is Prohorov's theorem on the weak compactness of probability measures. Results similar to those of this paper, but for logarithmic density rather than natural density, have been proved, by very different methods. (Author)
