A pupil of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and a protege of John Ruskin, Burne-Jones belonged to the second generation of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, creating a narrative style of romantic symbolism steeped in medieval legend and fused with the influence of Italian Renaissance masters that was to have widespread influence on both British and European art. Edward Burne-Jones is renowned for his beautiful and often melancholy evocations of a mythical, literary, ancient or medieval world. It will surprise many therefore to discover that he was a talented caricaturist and comic sketch artist with an impish sense of humour. Rarely published images from the British Museum will highlight: amusing sketches from everyday life, including colourful characters at the Turkish Baths; fond and humorous caricatures of William Morris and other members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood; charming extracts from Burne-Jones's illustrated 'Letters to Katie', the young daughter of a friend and witty self-portraits of an increasingly frustrated artist at work

3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In January 1891, William Morris founded the Kelmscott Press in order to produce books by traditional methods using, as far as possible, the printing technology and typographical style of the fifteenth century. This reflected the tenets of the Arts and Crafts Movement and was Morriss response to the mechanisation and mass production then permeating many aspects of daily life. These books were designed to be read slowly, to be appreciated and treasured. 'A Claim to Beauty' opens with an overview of William Morriss diverse career, detailing his achievements across the decorative arts and in literature. The focus then narrows to concentrate on Morriss lifelong passion for the art of the book, including his early experiments with typography and the wide range of his interests and influences, from medieval illuminated manuscripts to Germanic woodcuts
