Six moral tales by Éric Rohmer( Book )

11 editions published between 1980 and 2006 in English and held by 636 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Years before Eric Rohmer turned to filmmaking, he wrote his famed Six Moral Tales in book form. Stripped-down and incisive, these stories anticipate the literary quality of the cinematic works they would ultimately become. Both a primer for Rohmer's brilliant career and a series of perceptive character studies in their own right. Rohmer's collection Six Moral Tales speaks eloquently of a great cinematic legacy"--Page 4 of cover

Le rayon vert The green ray( Visual )

12 editions published between 1986 and 2008 in 4 languages and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The central theme of the "Comedies and Proverbs" series is the lack of any clear moral direction among today's young. The result inevitably is an immersion in self. Here a Parisian secretary, abandoned by her friends, cannot bear to spend an August in Paris. Her hopes of finding a dream lover are anything but fulfilled as she holidays on her own at the seaside. Although largely improvised the film has none of the looseness often associated with this approach. Rohmer's realism is as precise and deceptively simple as ever. There is, however, a touch of magic here

"The last of the tales of the Four Seasons and arguably the best, it unfolds during a glorious Indian summer in Provence and tells of the relationships of the two fortysomething heroines. One is trying to find a husband for the other, who claims she is far too busy with her vineyard business to make time for any romantic distractions. As always with this most elegant and civilised of directors, this is wonderfully witty, beautifully performed entertainment"--container
