The Birmingham Museum of Art has an Alabama 19th century decorative arts collection. A discussion of 19th century Alabama covers many aspects of daily life. Spinning, weaving and sewing were a part of most women's regular work. Talented slaves produced useful furniture. Horace King, a freed slave, built several bridges in the state. The Cooper Collection is also included.
