The critique of pure reason by Immanuel Kant ( Book )
386 editions published between 1781 and 2012 in 4 languages and held by 10,121 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Why this critique is called simply Critique of Practical Reason and not Critique of Pure Practical Reason, though the parallelism between it and the critique of speculative reason seems to demand the latter title, will be sufficiently shown in the treatise itself. Its task is merely to show that there is a pure practical reason, and, in order to do this, it critically examines reason's entire practical faculty. If it succeeds in this task, there is no need to examine the pure faculty itself to see whether it, like speculative reason, presumptuously overreaches itself. For if pure reason is actually practical, it will show its reality and that of its concepts in actions, and all disputations which aim to prove its impossibility will be in vain
Critique of practical reason by Immanuel Kant ( )
127 editions published between 1788 and 2013 in 3 languages and held by 6,541 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Kant's 1788 follow-up to his epochal Critique of Pure Reason analyzes the practical aspects of reason, which is concerned with will, or self-determination. He argues that the freedom of the will becomes the practical necessity of determining how one shall lead one's life, with the fundamental principle of morality being the "categorical imperative" stating that one should be obligated to act so that any moral action could be made into a universal law binding all mankind
The critique of judgement by Immanuel Kant ( Book )
139 editions published between 1892 and 2013 in 6 languages and held by 4,660 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Kant's Critique of Judgement analyses our experience of the beautiful and the sublime in relation to nature, morality, and theology. Meredith's classic translation is here lightly revised and supplemented with a bilingual glossary. The edition also includes the important First Introduction. - ;'beauty has purport and significance only for human beings, for beings at once animal and rational'. In the Critique of Judgement (1790) Kant offers a penetrating analysis of our experience of the beautiful and the sublime, discussing the objectivity of taste, aesthetic disinterestedness, the relation of

Alle wesentlichen Unterschiede zwischen den Originalausgaben sind durch Kursi
Immanuel Kant's Critique of pure reason by Immanuel Kant ( Book )

The text that follows is that of the second edition of 1787, and a translation is also given of all first-edition passages which in the second edition have been either altered or omitted. For this reissue of Norman Kemp Smith's classic translation, Howard Caygill has contributed a new Introduction which both sets this translation into the context of Kemp Smith's influence on Kant scholarship and assesses the impact of the Critique of Pure Reason itself. A new Further Reading section provides a useful guide for further study

Prolegomena to any future metaphysics that will be able to come forward as science with selections from the Critique of pure reason by Immanuel Kant ( )
21 editions published between 1997 and 2008 in English and held by 2,079 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Kant is the central figure of modern philosophy. He sought to rebuild philosophy from the ground up, and he succeeded in permanently changing its problems and methods. This new, revised edition of the Prolegomena, which is the best introduction to the theoretical side of his philosophy, presents his thought clearly by paying careful attention to his original language. Also included are selections from the Critique of Pure Reason, which fill out and explicate some of Kant's central arguments (including famous sections of the Schematism and Analogies), and in which Kant himself explains his special terminology. The first reviews of the Critique, to which Kant responded in the Prolegomena, are included in this revised edition. The volume is completed by a historical and philosophical introduction, explanatory notes, a chronology and a guide to further reading."--Jacket

This volume contains four versions of the lecture notes taken by Kant's students in his university courses in ethics given regularly over a period of some thirty years. The notes are very comprehensive and expound not only Kant's views on ethics but many of his opinions on life and human nature as well. Much of this material has never before been translated into English. As in other volumes in the series, there are copious linguistic and explanatory notes and a glossary of key terms
Groundwork of the metaphysics of morals by Immanuel Kant ( )
37 editions published between 1997 and 2012 in English and held by 1,931 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The main objective of Cambridge Texts in the History of Philosophy is to expand the range, variety, and quality of texts in the history of philosophy which are available in English. The series includes texts by familiar names (such as Descartes and Kant) and also by less well-known authors. Wherever possible, texts are published in complete and unabridged form, and translations are specially commissioned for the series. Each volume contains a critical introduction together with a guide to further reading and any necessary glossaries and textual apparatus. The volumes are designed for student use at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and will be of interest not only to students of philosophy but also to a wider audience of readers in the history of science, the history of theology, and the history of ideas"--

An extensive and comprehensive introduction explains key concepts and the central themes of each part of the work, and looks at some common objections to Kant's ideas. An Analysis of the Arguments outlines and examines major steps in Kant's reasoning. Detailed notes aim to clarify Kant's thoughts and strategies, to correct some misunderstandings of his doctrines, and to suggest various interpretations of difficult passages."--BOOK JACKET
