Transitions towards sustainable mobility new solutions and approaches for sustainable transport systems by J. A. E. E. van Nunen( )

10 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 411 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Delivering a sustainable transport system is not just a matter of adopting a number of technological innovations to improve performance in terms of people, planet, and profits. A broader structural and societal transition is needed in technology, as well as in institutions, behavioural patterns, and the economy as a whole. In this broader view, neither the free market nor the public sector will be the unique key player in making this transition happen. Elements of such an approach are presented in this book in a number of domains: integrating transport infrastructure and land use planning, thus connecting fields that are rather unconnected in day-to-day policies; experiments with dynamic transport optimization, including reports on pilot projects to test the viability of transitions; towards reliable transport systems, describing a reversal from supply-driven towards demand-driven approaches; and sustainable logistics and traffic management, from {u2018}local{u2019} city distribution to global closed supply chain loops
Multicriteria evaluation in physical planning by Peter Nijkamp( Book )

Secondly, this book attempts to show the wealth of potential applications of multiple criteria analysis by providing a presentation and discussion of various real-world uses of multiple criteria decision-making in the practice of physical planning. The book is mainly int

Is transport infrastructure effective? : transport infrastructure and accessibility : impacts on the space economy by Piet Rietveld( Book )

10 editions published between 1998 and 2012 in English and German and held by 158 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book discusses economic effects of transport infrastructure investments at various spatial levels: urban, regional, national and international. The analysis has both a theoretical and an empirical character. The concept of accessibility plays a central role in both the theoretical and empirical part of the book. In the empirical applications both modelling and non-modelling approaches are used. Empirical applications include the impacts of highway and railway construction on urban and regional economies, and the impacts of aviation and high speed rail on international accessibility in city systems

Institutions and sustainable transport : regulatory reform in advanced economies( Book )

7 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 139 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This unique book examines the role of institutions in transport regulation within a sustainability and comparative Trans-Atlantic framework. With contributions from leading experts in the field, three areas of analysis are provided: barriers to implementation of reforms, regulatory issues and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). The discussion on barriers focuses on political and public acceptance, as well as equity and environmental justice. Regulatory reform analyses include comparative discussions of railroad and airline deregulation in North America and Europe which are complimented with analyses of EU integration and transport regulation for sustainability, transport pricing and inter country competition. Finally, infrastructure finance and evaluation frameworks for PPP form the topical focus for a comprehensive assessment of PPP within the transport sector. Scholars and advanced students in engineering, public policy, planning, policy and international business will find Institutions and Sustainable Transport of great interest, as will national and sub-national transport senior planners and policy advisors in Europe and North America, and analysts and strategic planners for logistics organizations."--Résumé de l'éditeur

Railway development impacts on urban dynamics by Frank R Bruinsma( )

6 editions published between 2007 and 2014 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book addresses the role of railways in urban development. The central aim is to inquire into how especially the development of high-speed rail and light rail links will affect European cities. The analyses are carried out with special attention given to the broader institutional environment of the railway system, including the shift toward privatised railway companies, internationalisation, the occurrence of market and government failures in land markets, and private-public partnerships in the development of railway station areas. The essence of the plans to invest in railway stations is that railway stations are not considered merely as nodes where people transfer from one vehicle to another, but also as places where spatial concentrations of high value activity are recognised as having a positive impact on cities. The development of real estate near stations is increasingly seen as a negotiation process in which both public and private actors play certain roles to revitalise central urban areas
