Theology of hope; on the ground and the implications of a Christian eschatology by Jürgen Moltmann( Book )

42 editions published between 1965 and 2002 in English and Korean and held by 1,601 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The following efforts bear the title 'Theology of hope', not because they set out once again to present eschatology as a separate doctrine and to compete with the well-known textbooks. Rather, their aim is to show how theology can set out from hope and begin to consider its theme in an eschatological light. For this reason they enquire into the ground of the hope of Christian faith and into the responsible exercise of this hope in thought and action in the world today. The various critical discussions should not be understood as rejections and condemnations. They are necessary conversations on a common subject which is so rich that it demands continual new approaches. Hence I hope they may make it clear that even critical questions can be a sign of theological partnership. I have thus to thank all who have stimulated, and all who have opposed me." [Preface]

God in creation : a new theology of creation and the Spirit of God by Jürgen Moltmann( Book )

14 editions published between 1985 and 2007 in English and Undetermined and held by 854 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The title expresses the book's intention: not to go on distinguishing between God and the world, so as then to surrender the world, as godless, to its scientific 'disenchantment' and its technical exploitation by human beings, but instead to discover God in all the beings he has created and to find his life-giving Spirit in the community of creation that they share. This view--which has also been called panentheistic (in contrast to pantheistic)--requires us to bring reverence for the life of every living thing into the adoration of God. And this means expanding the worship and service of God to include service for God's creation

17 editions published between 1992 and 2001 in English and Korean and held by 666 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The fourth book in Jurgen Moltmann's systematic theology is a full-scale theology of the Spirit that also marks a personal religious quest. Moltmann, "the foremost Protestant theologian in the world" (Church Times), brings his characteristic audacity to this traditional topic and cuts to the heart of the matter with a simple identification: What we experience every day as the spirit of life is the spirit of God. Such considerations give Moltmann's treatment of the
The future of creation : collected essays by Jürgen Moltmann( Book )

25 editions published between 1970 and 2007 in English and German and held by 662 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"These essays do not merely represent stages in my progress from Theology of hope (1964) to The church in the power of the Spirit (1975)" ... , but are "also intended to illuminate the factual and methodological basis for the eschatological trend of this progress. My discussion about alternative views on eschatology and my ideas about the relationship between eschatology and the foundation of Christian ethics are to be read in this context. The essays on the theology of creation are designed to open up an eschatological concept of creation which will take in both 'creation at the beginning' and the promised 'new creation'. On the other hand they also aim to relate the eschatological hope to created reality."--Author's pref

Jesus Christ for today's world by Jürgen Moltmann( Book )

34 editions published between 1994 and 2012 in 5 languages and held by 589 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Jürgen Moltmann formulates necessary questions about the significance of Jesus the Christ for persons today. He offers a compelling portrait of the earthly Jesus as the divine brother in our distress and suffering and points to the risen Christ as the warrant for the "future in which God will restore everything ... and gather everything into his kingdom." Urging that acknowledgment of Christ and discipleship are two sides of the same coin, Moltmann contends that the question of Jesus Christ for today is not just an intellectual one. Moltmann takes fresh approaches to a number of crucial topics: Jesus and the kingdom of God, the passion of Christ and the pain of God, Jesus as brother of the tortured, and the resurrection of Christ as hope for the world, the cosmic Christ, Jesus in Jewish- Christian dialogue, the future of God, and others

God for a secular society : the public relevance of theology by Jürgen Moltmann( Book )

13 editions published between 1999 and 2005 in English and held by 506 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this masterful analysis of the religious and political dilemmas at the end of the modern age, world-renowned theologian Jürgen Moltmann assays the vaulting dreams and colossal failures of our time. He asks how we came to this point, and he argues strenuously for Christian discipleship and public theology that take sides. In both critical and creative ways he advances the specific relevance of Christian messianic hope to today's thorniest political, economic, and ecological questions--including human rights, environmental rights, globalization, market capitalism, fundamentalisms, and Jewish-Christian relations--and the deeper values contested therein
