Highway noise; a design guide for highway engineers by Beranek, and Newman Bolt( Book )

1 edition published in 1971 in English and held by 127 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Various methods of assessing noise, loudness, and noise annoyance are reviewed and explained; sources, types, and intensities of traffic noise are noted; typical means of abatement and attenuation are described; design criteria for various land uses ranging from low-density to industrial are suggested and compared with the results of previous BBN and British systems for predicting annoyance and complaint; and a design guide for predicting traffic noise, capable of being programmed for batch and on-line computer applications, is presented in form suitable for use as a working tool. A flow diagram describes the interrelationships of elements in the traffic noise prediction methodology, and each element is discussed in detail in the text. The text is presented of a tape recording that takes the listener through a series of traffic situations, with such variables as traffic distance, flow velocity, distance, outdoors and indoors, and presence or absence of absorbers and attenuators
Highway noise : generation and control by Beranek, and Newman Bolt( Book )

2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 126 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A set of procedures has been developed and is presented here to give highway engineers greater capability in predicting, evaluating and alleviating traffic-generated noise impacts on the community through highway design practices. The procedures include a manual method using nomographs and a computer program that incorporates plotting routines to identify problem locations. The design guide procedures may be applied both to location or design studies for new highways and to projects involving modifications to existing highways
Highway noise: measurement, simulation, and mixed reactions by William J Galloway( Book )

3 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 119 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Two major studies formed the basis for a theory of traffic noise from which a simulation model was built, and computers were used to describe the noise of different highway situations. The two studies basic to the simulation model involved comparing various measures of sound, and deciding upon a simple, yet satisfactory physical measure of the level of sound, and then measuring noise produced by various kinds and classes of vehicles
Aircraft noise impact : planning guidelines for local agencies by Wilsey & Ham( Book )

11 editions published between 1972 and 1973 in English and held by 118 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Noise barrier design handbook by Myles Simpson( Book )

2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 113 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This handbook is intended to be a tool for use by the highway designer to aid in the design of noise abatement barriers. It provides a means of defining the geometric configuration of a barrier to produce a desired noise reduction, and also provides a design evaluation and selection procedure in which specific barriers are detailed, and then evaluated in terms of cost, acoustical characteristics, and non-acoustical characteristics (such as durability, ease of maintenance, safety, aesthetics and community acceptance). This handbook guides the designer in the preparation of a design which he believes will be accepted by the community and perform as desired both acoustically and non-acoustically, for reasonable cost
