Mathematical theory of Feynman path integrals by Sergio Albeverio ( Book )
44 editions published between 1974 and 2008 in English and German and held by 1,100 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Feynman path integrals, suggested heuristically by Feynman in the 40s, have become the basis of much of contemporary physics, from non-relativistic quantum mechanics to quantum fields, including gauge fields, gravitation, cosmology. Recently ideas based on Feynman path integrals have also played an important role in areas of mathematics like low-dimensional topology and differential geometry, algebraic geometry, infinite-dimensional analysis and geometry, and number theory." "The second edition of LNM 523 is based on the two first authors' mathematical approach of this theory presented in its first edition in 1976. To take care of the many developments since then, an entire new chapter on the current forefront of research has been added. Except for this new chapter and the correction of a few misprints, the basic material and presentation of the first edition has been maintained. At the end of each chapter the reader will also find notes with further bibliographical information."--BOOK JACKET

8 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 828 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume contains 27 refereed research articles and survey papers written by experts in the field of stochastic analysis and related topics. Most contributors are well known leading mathematicians worldwide and prominent young scientists. The volume reflects a review of the recent developments in stochastic analysis and related topics. It puts in evidence the strong interconnection of stochastic analysis with other areas of mathematics, as well as with applications of mathematics in natural and social economic sciences. The volume also provides some possible future directions for the field

Solvable models in quantum mechanics by Sergio Albeverio ( Book )
19 editions published between 1987 and 2005 in English and Undetermined and held by 499 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Next to the harmonic oscillator and the Coulomb potential the class of two-body models with point interactions is the only one where complete solutions are available. All mathematical and physical quantities can be calculated explicitly which makes this field of research important also for more complicated and realistic models in quantum mechanics. The detailed results allow their implementation in numerical codes to analyse properties of alloys, impurities, crystals and other features in solid state quantum physics. This monograph presents in a systematic way the mathematical approach and unifies results obtained in recent years. The student with a sound background in mathematics will get a deeper understanding of Schrödinger Operators and will see many examples which may eventually be used with profit in courses on quantum mechanics and solid state physics. The book has textbook potential in mathematical physics and is suitable for additional reading in various fields of theoretical quantum physics

The dynamics of complex urban systems an interdisciplinary approach by Sergio Albeverio ( )
17 editions published between 2007 and 2010 in English and held by 450 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The present book outlines a conceptual framework for modelling and forecasting the dynamics of both growth-limited cities and megacities bringing together experts from several disciplines. The interdisciplinary point of view is particularly stressed. The contributions presented reflect the various interdependencies between structural (physics and mathematics models) and social development (spatial decision making and urban planning models). The volume emphasizes not only the contributions from different disciplines but also pays attention to specific problems like model calibration, data avail
Mathematical physics and stochastic analysis essays in honour of Ludwig Streit by Sergio Albeverio ( )
6 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 446 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In October 1998 a conference was held in Lisbon to celebrate Ludwig Streit's 60th birthday. This book collects some of the papers presented at the conference as well as other essays contributed by the many friends and collaborators who wanted to honor Ludwig Streit's scientific career and personality. The contributions cover many aspects of contemporary mathematical physics. Of particular importance are new results on infinite-dimensional stochastic analysis and its applications to a wide range of physical domains. Hyperfinite dirichlet forms and stochastic processes by Sergio Albeverio ( )
10 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 406 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This monograph treats the theory of Dirichlet forms from a comprehensive point of view, using 'nonstandard analysis'. Thus, it is close in spirit to the discrete classical formulation of Dirichlet space theory by Beurling and Deny (1958). The discrete infinitesimal setup makes it possible to study the diffusion and the jump part using essentially the same methods. This setting has the advantage of being independent of special topological properties of the state space and in this sense is a natural one, valid for both finite- and infinite-dimensional spaces. The present monograph provides a tho

Lectures on probability theory and statistics : Ecole d'été de probabilités de Saint-Flour XXX, 2000 by Sergio Albeverio ( Book )
19 editions published between 2002 and 2003 in English and held by 352 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In World Mathematical Year 2000 the traditional St. Flour Summer School was hosted jointly with the European Mathematical Society. Sergio Albeverio reviews the theory of Dirichlet forms, and gives applications including partial differential equations, stochastic dynamics of quantum systems, quantum fields and the geometry of loop spaces. The second text, by Walter Schachermayer, is an introduction to the basic concepts of mathematical finance, including the Bachelier and Black-Scholes models. The fundamental theorem of asset pricing is discussed in detail. Finally Michel Talagrand, gives an overview of the mean field models for spin glasses. This text is a major contribution towards the proof of certain results from physics, and includes a discussion of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick and the p-spin interaction models
