12 editions published between 1995 and 2011 in English and held by 215 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Transformation in the Writing, A Case of Surrender-and-Catch further develops the concepts first presented in Surrender and Catch (1976) and applied to sociology and its history in Survival and Sociology (1991) and autobiography in O Loma! (1989). This idea involves the recognition of the unprecedented nature of the present time in the history of humankind and the planet, a time when we ourselves, rather than Nature or the Deity, can annihilate both ourselves and our planet. `Surrender' is nonlinguistic (or prelinguistic), `prepredicative', `prephenomenal', and involves suspending or `bracketing' the world, calling it into question. This is the best any individual can do, in view of the point of crisis at which we are now. In Transformation in the Writing Wolff explores how his hypothesis of Surrender(-and-Catch) bears on aspects of autobiography (émigré status, field work), sociology of knowledge, poetry, phenomenology, hermeneutics, critical theory, and on attitudes to our time
The sociology of radical commitment : Kurt H. Wolff's existential turn( Book )

3 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 158 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this collection of essays, editors Gary Backhaus and George Psathas present the life and thought of Kurt H. Wolff, a Jewish refugee from Darmstadt, student of Karl Mannheim, practitioner of the sociology of knowledge, translator of the classic German texts, and creator of the radical existential sociology of surrender-and-catch. The aim of the book is to explicate Wolff's relation to the tradition and orientation to which he belongs, while at the same time demonstrating how he developed a sociology of radical commitment. Wolff's hope is to find possibilities for humankind that lead us out of the crises for which traditional scientia has been disappointingly ineffective, and this volume is essential to students wishing to expand the pursuit of sociological knowledge."--BOOK JACKET

Conflict by Georg Simmel( Book )

5 editions published between 1955 and 1968 in English and German and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The author, Georg Simmel, has been discribed as the Freud of the study of society, describing conflict as part of a dynamic by which some people are drawn together into those uneasy combinations known as groups. The inter-weaving or entangling of social circles is viewed in the same way, as part of the dynamic both of groups and of the individual personalities that compose them.--Publisher
