Topics in the history of psychology by Gregory A Kimble ( Book )
9 editions published between 1984 and 1985 in English and held by 720 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The volumes of this work consist of nineteen chapters. Seventeen were written by psychologists expert in a particular branch of our field. For this reason, the book as a whole is not organized chronologically, as reflected in our title Topics in the History of Psychology. The first chapter in each of the volumes are the editors' attempts to remedy this deficiency. The first volume covers the areas of conditioning and learning, human learning and memory, sensory and perceptual processes, comparative psychology, and physiological psychology. Volume 2 covers the history of behavioral genetics, psychological testing, developmental psychology, drives and motives, sleep and dreaming, psychotherapy, psychopathology, personality theory, and social psychology

Study of electron focusing by non-linear spirals ( Book )
2 editions published in 1962 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The problem of a plane-to-plane electrostatic image-tube was attacked by theoretical, as well as by experimental, methods. Large spiral-lens cylinders were designed and built to handle focusing and accelerator functions involved. High transmission meshes, both flat and spherical, were prepared for use in test tubes. Raytracing studies revealed that an internal convex mesh-anode can produce a convex virtual-image surface from a flat cathode-plane, under certain conditions. Tubes built on that basis showed definite effects from the convex versus the concave shape of the mesh. These effects, however, were too weak to be usable. A triode system, using a strongly convex mesh of conchoidal shape, facing a plane cathode behind a flat first anode mesh, was giving good results. The theory of this aplanatic system, along with some pictorial evidence, is given. (Author)

Study of electron focusing by non-linear spirals by Kurt Schlesinger ( Book )
1 edition published in 1962 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The use of resistive spiral coatings in electron optical devices is discussed. These include spirals with uniform, as well as non-uniform, turn density. The linear spirals control electron optical throw without focusing. Non-linear spirals can be used as electron lenses of the coverging, as well as diverging type. A general theory called electron trigonometry is developed to predict image formation in systems with spiral optics. This theory is also applicable to conventional systems employing electrostatic, magnetic, or mixed fields. Practical applications of spiral optics are illustrated by four types of developmental cathode ray tubes, including: scan stabilizer tube, conserving sweep size over a wide range of post acceleration; penetron tube, using spiral optics for a single beam two color display; scan magnifier, using a spiral lens to increase picture size up to three times linear; and microspot tube, using a spiral neck to produce 3,000 lines per inch at 40KW per sq. cm

Camera tube with internal image-motion compensation ( Book )
1 edition published in 1967 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
A three-inch image orthicon with electrostatic motion-compensation was developed and tested. It measures 21-inches overall, of which 7-1/2 inches are taken up by the image-section. Resolution is of the order of 17 line-pairs per mm. Capabilities include the tracking of translatory motion of images projected on photocathode within a 1-1/16 inch circle. In this process, storage gains of over 40db in light-sensitivity have been realized. Image-deflection requires a balanced voltage of 500 volt per terminal. A feedback-dc-amplifier is described which operates on a single-ended input of 10 volts. In circuit, its square-wave response extends beyond 300 kilo-Hertz, including d-c. Image misregistry follows an r to the 3rd power-law with radius (r). Errors of superposition stay below 0.8%, and 2.8%, respectively, within areas of 9/16-inch and 1-1/16-inch diameter on photocathode. Several types of test-equipment are described. This includes gating-pulse generators, electronic switches of the type 'DPDT', and a special film-transport for continuous-motion at one frame per second, complete with synchronous slow-scan circuitry.
