"Among the books which afford us an insight into the popular religious thought of the middle ages, none holds a more important place than the Legenda Aurea or Golden Legend. The book was compiled and put into form about the year 1275 by Jacobus de Voragine, Archbishop of Genoa, who laid under contribution for his purpose the Lives of the Fathers by S. Jerome, the Ecclesiastical History of Eusebius, and other books of a like kind; while for the lives of the saints more nearly approaching his own age he appears to have industriously collected such legends as he could meet with, whether in manuscript or handed down by oral tradition."--Prologue
The Malleus maleficarum of Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger by Heinrich Institoris( Book )

11 editions published between 1494 and 1496 in Latin and held by 30 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For nearly three centuries Malleus Maleficarum (the witches hammer) was the professional manual for witch hunters. This book by two of the most famous Inquisitors of the age is still a document of the force of that eras beliefs. Under a Bull of Pope Innocent VIII, Kramer and Sprenger exposed the heresy of those who did not believe in witches and set forth the proper order of the world with devils, witches, and the will of god. Even if you do not believe in the witchcraft, the world of 1484 did

Lives of the popes by Platina( Book )

6 editions published in 1481 in Latin and held by 22 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Bartolomeo Platina (1421-1481), historian, political theorist, and author of a best-selling cookbook, began life as a mercenary soldier and ended it as the head of the Vatican Library. A papal official under the humanist Pope Pius II, he was a member of the humanist academies of Cardinal Bessarion and Pomponio Leto, and was twice imprisoned for conspiring against Pope Paul II. Returning to favor under Pope Sixtus IV, he composed his most famous work, a biographical compendium of the Roman popes from St. Peter down to his own time. The work critically synthesized a wide range of sources and became the standard reference work on papal history for early modern Europe, reprinted dozens of times and translated into a number of languages. A characteristic work of Renaissance humanism, it used Christian antiquity as a standard against which to criticize modern churchmen. This edition contains the first complete translation into English and an improved Latin text. Volume 1, the first of a projected four, covers the period from the founding of the church through ad 461. -- Jacket

Anton Koberger : zum 500. Todestag des Druckers der Schedelschen Weltchronik ; [Ausstellung der Stadtbibliothek Nürnberg im Ausstellungskabinett Stadtbibliothek Zentrum, 20. September - 28. Dezember 2013] by Anton Koberger( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in German and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
