Sometimes called the "Christian Herodotus" and often referred to as the "Father of ecclesiastical history," Eusebius (A.D. 263-339) has earned legitimate fame as the historian of Christian antiquity. Eusebius--the church history : a new translation with commentary by Eusebius( Book )

5 editions published between 1998 and 2007 in English and held by 442 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Often called the "father of church history," Eusebius was the first to trace the rise of Christianity during its crucial first three centuries from Christ to Constantine. Our principal resource for earliest Christianity, The Church History presents a panorama of apostles, church fathers, emperors, bishops, heroes, heretics, confessors, and martyrs. This edition includes Paul L. Maier's clear and precise translation, historical commentary on each book in The Church History, and numerous maps, illustrations, and photographs. Coupled with helpful indexes and the Loeb numbering system, these features promise to liberate Eusebius from previous outdated and stilted works, creating a new standard primary resource for readers interested in the early history of Christianity. - Back cover

Eusebius' ecclesiastical history : complete and unabridged by Eusebius( Book )

23 editions published between 1872 and 2009 in 4 languages and held by 320 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History is one of the classics of early Christianity and of equal stature with the works of Flavius Josephus. Eusebius chronicles the events of the first three centuries of the Christian church in such a way as to record a vast number of vital facts about early Christianity that can be learned from no other ancient source. When Eusebius (c. A.D. 260-340) wrote his Ecclesiastical History, his vital concern was to record facts before they disappeared, and before eye-witnesses were killed and libraries were burned and destroyed in persecutions by Rome. He faithfully transcribed the most important existing documents of his day so that future generations would have a collection of factual data to interpret. Thus Eusebius richly deserves the title "father of Church history."--Book cover

Commentary on Isaiah by Eusebius( Book )

8 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 193 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Eusebius of Caesara (ca. 260-ca. 340), one of the early church's great polymaths, produced significant works as a historian, geographer, philologist, exegete, apologist, and theologian. His commentary on Isaiah is one of his major exegetical works and the earliest extant Christian commentary on the great prophet. Geographically situated between Alexandria and Antioch, Eusebius approached the text giving notable attention to historical detail and possible allegorical interpretation. But above all, employing the angolgia fidei, he drew his reader's attention to other passages of Scripture that share a common vocabulary and theological themes, thus allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture
