Characteristic patterns of river outflow in the Mississippi delta by Don Walsh( Book )

3 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This was a two-year investigation of the Mississippi River discharge processes into the Gulf of Mexico in the vicinity of South and Southwest passes. The river discharge regime was found to follow certain patterns which permitted breaking the study down into three major steps: the river as an estuary, the river discharge as a jet and the turbulent mixing of the discharge with more dense ocean waters offshore. This work was conducted in support of NASA requirements to evaluate the use of remote sensors for the conduct of oceanographic studies from spacecraft. Aircraft mounted sensors were used in this investigation and valuable insight was gained into their potential for oceanography. (Author)
The space oceanography project : status report, February 1966-October 1966 by Texas A & M University System( Book )

2 editions published between 1966 and 1967 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

During this period the primary research activity has been in the form of aerial studies on the Mississippi outflow pattern into the Gulf of Mexico. Two flight missions have been made over this region using the specially configured NASA aircraft for multisensor measurements. In addition to discussing these, this report indicates other scheduled operations that could not be carried out due to either weather or non-availability of the aircraft. Project staffing, facilities and capabilities as well as projected research plans for the forthcoming year are outlined together with a consideration of arrangements whereby the utilization of remote sensors for oceanographic studies may be made effective.
