Darwinism science or naturalistic philosophy : the debate at Stanford University by Phillip E Johnson( Visual )

7 editions published between 1993 and 2003 in English and held by 115 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Debate before an audience between two professors on the naturalistic vs. the theistic way of understanding human existence. William Provine, Professor of Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University, cites evidence supporting neo-Darwinian theory and argues that microevolutionary processes account for the origin of all life. He asserts that modern evolutional theory is incompatible with belief in God; that there are no absolute moral and ethical laws; that free will does not exist; and that human character is merely a result of heredity and environment. Phillip Johnson, Professor of Law at the University of California in Berkeley, agrees that modern neo-Darwinian theory is atheistic and scientific; however, as a general theory it is a philosophical dogma that is inconsistent with the evidence. Provine and Johnson debate basic questions: Do we owe our existence to a creator? Can the blind watchmaker of natural selection take the place of God? Moderator is Timothy Jackson, Dept. of Religious Studies, Stanford University

Darwin on trial by Phillip E Johnson( )

9 editions published between 1991 and 2012 in English and held by 46 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Is evolution fact or fancy? Is natural selection an unsupported hypothesis or a confirmed mechanism of evolutionary change? Berkeley law professor Phillip Johnson looks at the case for evolution with a lawyer's cold, dispassionate eye for logic and proof. What he finds is that scientists have put the cart before the horse: they have prematurely accepted Darwin's theory and have since been scrambling to back it up, mostly unsuccessfully. As the difficulties piled up, scientists have clung to the theory out of fear of encouraging religious fundamentalism, but in the process, they have turned Darwinism into a religion of its own
Darwinism on trial by Phillip E Johnson( Visual )

5 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Speaking to an audience of students and faculty at the University of California at Irvine, Phillip Johnson explores the academic shortcomings of Darwinism. He incisively points out that the scientific communitiy's methods exclude presenting negative arguments for an accepted theory. Because Darwinism was so readily embraced by scientists, they are now in the position of viewing evidence only through the spectrum of Darwinism's validity, even though many issues have never been satisfactorily dealt with and suggest that the theory may not be correct. Mr. Johnson does not harangue Darwinism or scientists but calls for a more intellectually honest evaluation of how life arrived at its present state. An excellent introduction to the unresolved issues of Darwinism, this videotape rattles the cages of conventional wisdom. - Container
