Strumento fondamentale per l'unificazione dell'uso nazionale della nostra lingua e impresa pionieristica nell'ambito delle lingue europee, il Vocabolario della Crusca ha consentito, nella sua edizione elettronica, un 'restauro editoriale' che abilita il lettore odierno ad apprezzare in ogni sua parte la mirabile architettura dell'opera secentesca. Il 'restauro editoriale' ha infatti destrutturato e poi ricostruito un grande esempio dell''artigianato' culturale fiorentino, ripercorrendo gran parte delle fasi che percorsero i primi accademici della Crusca per identificare i fondamenti su cui innalzare il monumento lessicografico della fiorentinit.̉ Ne sorse un dizionario che, mirando alla perpetuazione della lingua usata dai tre sommi autori trecenteschi (Dante, Petrarca e Boccaccio) la segnalava agli scrittori non toscani con elementi scelti in testi prevalentemente fiorentini o toscani, citati con accurata contestualit, ̉ senza escludere modelli non toscani (principe l'Ariosto) e il ricorso alla lingua parlata (attestata nei commediografi); e senza neppure escludere, come abbiamo accennato, la terminologia tecnico-scientifica, della quale era stato promotore il granduca Cosimo I
