Numerical solution of partial differential equations by the finite element method by Claes Johnson( Book )

45 editions published between 1987 and 2009 in English and held by 603 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An accessible introduction to the finite element method for solving numeric problems, this volume offers the keys to an important technique in computational mathematics. Suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, it outlines clear connections with applications and considers numerous examples from a variety of science- and engineering-related specialties. 1987 edition
Dreams of calculus : perspectives on mathematics education by Johan Hoffman( Book )

12 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 302 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this well-reasoned and analytical account of the development and culture of mathematics, the authors address the relationship between modern mathematics and mathematical education. Concrete recommendations for much-needed reform of the teaching of mathematics are offered in hopes of stimulating further debate among the community. The book is essential reading for everybody involved in mathematics and science, and mathematics teaching
Applied mathematics, body and soul by K Eriksson( Book )

33 editions published between 2003 and 2010 in English and held by 237 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Offers a mathematics education reform project that was developed at Chalmers University of Technology and includes a series of volumes and software. This title presents a modern version of Calculus and Linear Algebra, including constructive/numerical techniques and applications suitable for undergraduate programs in engineering and science
Angewandte Mathematik: body and soul by K Eriksson( Book )

10 editions published in 2005 in German and English and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Computational turbulent incompressible flow by Johan Hoffman( Book )

18 editions published between 2004 and 2007 in English and Undetermined and held by 72 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is Volume 4 of the book series of the Body & Soul mathematics education reform program, and presents a unified new approach to computational simulation of turbulent flow starting from the general basis of calculus and linear algebra of Vol 1-3. The book puts the Body & Soul computational finite element methodology in the form of General Galerkin (G2), up against the challenge of computing turbulent solutions of the inviscid Euler equations and the Navier-Stokes equations with small viscosity. The book shows that direct application of G2 without any turbulence or wall modeling, allows reliable computation on a PC of mean value quantities of turbulent flow such as drag and lift. The power of G2 is demonstrated by resolving several classical scientific paradoxes of fluid flow and by uncovering secrets of flying, sailing, racing and ball sports. The book presents new aspects on both mathematics and computation of turbulent flow, and challenges established approaches. The book is directed to a wide audience of computational mathematicians fluid dynamicists and scientists. The G2 solver is available as part the free software project FEniCS at www.fenics.org. The book has a dedicated dynamic web page, including movies from a wide variety of simulations, at www.bodysoulmath.org. The book is focussed on incompressible flow, but opens to compressible flow continued in Vol 5 on thermodynamics. The authors are experts on computational mathematics and technology

Slaying the sky dragon : death of the greenhouse gas theory : the settled climate science-- revisited( Book )

1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Eight leading international experts methodically expose how willful fakery and outright incompetence were hidden within the politicized realm of government climatology. Applying a thoughtful and sympathetic writing style, the authors help even the untrained mind to navigate the maze of atmospheric thermodynamics. Step by step the reader is shown why the so-called greenhouse effect cannot possibly exist in nature." --Back cover
Advanced numerical approximation of nonlinear hyperbolic equations : lectures given at the 2nd session of the Centro Internazionale Matematico Estivo (C.I.M.E.) held in Cetraro, Italy, June 23-28, 1997 by Alfio Quarteroni( Book )

4 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains the texts of the four series of lectures presented by B. Cockburn, C. Johnson, C.W. Shu and E. Tadmor at a C.I.M.E. Summer School. It is aimed at providing a comprehensive and up-to-date presentation of numerical methods which are nowadays used to solve nonlinear partial differential equations of hyperbolic type, developing shock discontinuities. The most effective methodologies in the framework of finite elements, finite differences, finite volumes spectral methods and kinetic methods, are addressed, in particular high-order shock capturing techniques, discontinuous Galerkin methods, adaptive techniques based upon a-posteriori error analysis
