These six volumes - the result of a ten year collaboration between the authors, two of France's leading scientists and both distinguished international figures - compile the mathematical knowledge required by researchers in mechanics, physics, engineering, chemistry and other branches of application of mathematics for the theoretical and numerical resolution of physical models on computers. Since the publication in 1924 of the Methoden der mathematischen Physik by Courant and Hilbert, there has been no other comprehensive and up-to-date publication presenting the mathematical tools needed in applications of mathematics in directly implementable form. The advent of large computers has in the meantime revolutionised methods of computation and made this gap in the literature intolerable: the objective of the present work is to fill just this gap. Many phenomena in physical mathematics may be modeled by a system of partial differential equations in distributed systems: a model here means a set of equations, which together with given boundary data and, if the phenomenon is evolving in time, initial data, defines the system. The advent of high-speed computers has made it possible for the first time to caluclate values from models accurately and rapidly. Researchers and engineers thus have a crucial means of using numerical results to modify and adapt arguments and experiments along the way. Every fact of technical and industrial activity has been affected by these developments. Modeling by distributed systems now also supports work in many areas of physics (plasmas, new materials, astrophysics, geophysics), chemistry and mechanics and is finding increasing use in the life sciences. Volumes 5 and 6 cover problems of Transport and Evolution

This is the third supplementary volume to Kluwer's highly acclaimed twelve-volume Encyclopaedia of Mathematics. This additional volume contains nearly 500 new entries written by experts and covers developments and topics not included in the previous volumes. These entries are arranged alphabetically throughout and a detailed index is included. This supplementary volume enhances the existing twelve volumes, and together, these thirteen volumes represent the most authoritative, comprehensive and up-to-date Encyclopaedia of Mathematics available

DESCRIPTION DES METHODES DE MONTE CARLO AINSI QUE DE LEURS EVOLUTIONS RECENTES POUR LE CALCUL D'ECOULEMENTS DE GAZ RAREFIES.
1 edition published in 1992 in French and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
NOUS CONSIDERONS LES CONDITIONS AUX LIMITES ABSORBANTES POUR L'EQUATION DES ONDES. NOUS PRESENTONS QUELQUES SIMULATIONS NUMERIQUES POUR MONTRER L'IMPORTANCE DU TERME DE COURBURE. LA PRISE EN COMPTE DE CELUI-CI FOURNIT AUSSI UNE POSSIBILITE DE TRAITER LES COINS DE LA FRONTIERE ARTIFICIELLE. ENSUITE, NOUS ANALYSONS ET CONSTRUISONS DES SCHEMAS D'ORDRE QUATRE POUR L'EQUATION DES ONDES, LES EQUATIONS DE MAXWELL ET LES EQUATIONS D'ELASTODYNAMIQUE LINEAIRE EN UTILISANT LA METHODE D'EQUATION MODIFIEE. FINALEMENT, NOUS ANALYSONS L'ERREUR DANS LES COEFFICIENTS DE REFLEXION ET TRANSMISSION DANS LE CAS OU LE MAILLAGE REGULIER NE RESPECTE PAS BIEN LA GEOMETRIE DE LA FRONTIERE
UTILISATION DE LA TRANSFORMATION EN ONDELETTES POUR L'ANALYSE DE SIGNAUX FRACTALS ET POUR LA RESOLUTION D'EQUATIONS AUX DERIVEES PARTIELLES by Emmanuel Bacry ( Book )
1 edition published in 1992 in French and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
CE MEMOIRE SE COMPOSE DE DEUX PARTIES INDEPENDANTES. DANS LA PREMIERE PARTIE, NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS A L'ETUDE D'OBJETS FRACTALS A L'AIDE DE LA TRANSFORMATION EN ONDELETTES CONTINUE. NOUS NOUS APPLIQUONS NOTAMMENT A ETENDRE AUX SIGNAUX LE FORMALISME MULTIFRACTAL DES MESURES SINGULIERES. LE NOUVEAU FORMALISME OBTENU PERMET D'ETUDIER L'IMPORTANCE RELATIVE DES DIFFERENTS TYPES DE SINGULARITES INTERVENANT DANS UN SIGNAL SINGULIER. DE NOMBREUSES APPLICATIONS NUMERIQUES PORTANT AUSSI BIEN SUR DES SIGNAUX GENERES PAR ORDINATEUR QUE SUR DES SIGNAUX EXPERIMENTAUX PROVENANT D'EXPERIENCES DE TURBULENCE PLEINEMENT DEVELOPPEE VIENNENT ILLUSTRER NOS PROPOS. DANS LA SECONDE PARTIE DE CE MEMOIRE, NOUS PRESENTONS UN SCHEMA NUMERIQUE ADAPTATIF EN ESPACE ET EN TEMPS POUR LA RESOLUTION DES EQUATIONS AUX DERIVEES PARTIELLES. CE SCHEMA EST BASE SUR L'UTILISATION DE BASES ORTHOGONALES D'ONDELETTES. LA STRUCTURE DE MULTIRESOLUTION ENGENDREE PAR DE TELLES BASES PERMET, DE FACON NATURELLE, D'ADAPTER LA FINESSE DE LA GRILLE SPATIALE D'UN SCHEMA NUMERIQUE A LA REGULARITE LOCALE DE LA SOLUTION ET D'OBTENIR AINSI UN SCHEMA ADAPTATIF EN ESPACE. IL S'AGIT POUR NOUS ICI D'ADAPTER NON SEULEMENT LA FINESSE DE LA GRILLE SPATIALE MAIS AUSSI CELLE DE LA GRILLE TEMPORELLE AFIN DE CONCENTRER L'EFFORT NUMERIQUE DANS LES REGIONS DE L'ESPACE OU DE FORTES SINGULARITES APPARAISSENT. DES TESTS NUMERIQUES CONCERNANT LA STABILITE, LA COMPLEXITE ET LA PRECISION SONT EFFECTUES SUR L'EQUATION DE BURGERS
