Also included is an exhange of notes concerning military activities at Huntsville, including items from Napoleon Bonaparte Buford and Nathan Bedford Forrest. The notes concern the surrender of Huntsville and the idea of exempting areas of the city from bombardment. Other topics include the establishment of a general court-martial; a notice from the Negro population of Macon, Miss., inviting Union troops to a public dinner; and a report of pillaging and attempted rape by soldiers of the 19th Pennsylvania Cavalry
