Quantum flavordynamics, quantum chromodynamics, and unified theories by K. T Mahanthappa( Book )

16 editions published in 1980 in English and held by 265 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Advanced Study Institute on Quantum Flavordynamics, Quantum Chromodynamics and Unified Theories was held on the campus th of the University of Colorado at Boulder from July 9 through July 27th of 1979. There has been a rapid progress in the understanding of weak, electromagnetic and strong interactions and their unification during the past few years. The purpose of the Institute was to have a group of lecturers active in these areas of research give a series of lectures on various aspects of these topics beginning at the elementary level and ending with the up-to-date developments. There were three lecturers, Professors S. Ellis, R. Field and C.H. Llewellyn Smith who covered the different but related aspects of Quantum Chromodynamics. Their lectures were well coordinated, but some overlap was inevitable. Dr. Buras gave two lectures on QCD corrections beyond the leading order. Professor D. Gross covered the nonperturbative aspects and a possible mechanism of quark confinement. At a more phenomenological level, Professor C. De Tar covered the bag models. The subject matter of electro weak interactions was covered by Professor G. Altarelli. Professor J. Wess gave six lectures on supersymmetry and supergravity. All these lectures with the exception of those of Professor D. Gross are incorporated in this volume. The contents of Professor Gross' lectures are available elsewhere and therefore only references and problems are included here. In addition to the above lectures, there were workshop-like discussion sessions

The Advancea Kesearch Workshop on Superstrings was held on the campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder from July 27th through August 1, 1987. Since the work of Green and Schwartz in the summer of 1984, string theories have elicited tremendous amount of interest from both theoretical physicists and mathematicians. The objective of the Workshop was to bring together practitioners in the field to discuss the progress and problems, and possible directions of future research. There were ten talks of one hour each and twenty three talks of one-half hour each. The talks covered new formulations and technical developments. There were intense discussions both during and at the end of the lectures; 'further discussions continued during lunch and dinner. These proceedings contain all talks given at the Workshop except those by Victor Kac, Darwin Chang and Doron Gepner. The Workshop was sponsored by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which provided generous financial support enabling many young physicists from the U.S. and abroad to participate in the Workshop. Additional co-sponsors were the U.S. Department of Energy and the University of Colorado. The former offered further financial assistance and the latter furnished clerical and technical services and its campus facilities for the purpose of the organization and running of the Workshop. The International Organizing Committee consisted of John Ellis, Francois Englert, Peter G.O. Freund (co-director), K.T. Mahanthappa (co-director) and Abdus Salam
FERMION MASSES AND NEUTRINO OSCILLATIONS IN SO(10) X SU(2)F*( )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We present in this talk a model based on SO(10) x SU(2){sub F} having symmetric mass textures with 5 zeros constructed by us recently. The symmetric mass textures arising from the left-right symmetry breaking chain of SO(10) give rise to good predictions for the masses, mixing angles and CP violation measures in the quark and lepton sectors (including the neutrinos), all in agreement with the most up-to-date experimental data within 1 {sigma}. Various lepton flavor violating decays in our model are also investigated. Unlike in models with lop-sided textures, our prediction for the decay rate of {mu} + e{gamma} is much suppressed and yet it is large enough to be probed by the next generation of experiments. The observed baryonic asymmetry in the Universe can be accommodated in our model utilizing soft leptogenesis
