Learning Resources Center Conference : proceedings and evaluation by Kathleen Mikan( Book )

1 edition published in 1980 in English and held by 127 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report includes both a collection of 16 papers presented at a national conference on learning resource centers (LRC's) in nursing schools and the results of a survey of participants conducted to evaluate the impact of the conference. Designed to increase the participants' knowledge and awareness of how they might better utilize an lrc to support their nursing education programs, the conference focused on management of LRC'S. Topics covered by speakers include the past, present, and future of LRC's; organization components and structural models; creating functional LRC's; getting faculty involved with two case studies; facility planning and design; integrating the lrc with school curriculum; management and operations; evaluation of cost and learning effectiveness; and performance testing in a learning skills lab. Three papers summarize research studies: (1) a survey of innovative programs; (2) an analysis of LRC's as a function of the director's academic qualifications and the center's administrative, fiscal, and organizational structure; and (3) a classification scheme of questions asked by nursing students in self-instructional learning environments. The report also details the findings of a survey of conference attendees, which evaluates both short- and long-term conference impact and describes characteristics of participants and their LRC'S. Appendices include the questionnaires used and a summary of conference participants by geographic area. (Lmm)

Cataloging non-print at NMAC; a guide for the medical librarian by National Medical Audiovisual Center( Book )

4 editions published between 1971 and 1972 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Cataloging audiovisual materials consists of compiling depictive information which best describes the content and substance of the audiovisual (av). Since the physical nature of AV's makes it necessary to limit access to them, the catalog entry should contain information which will reduce to a minimum the occasions when the handling of the av is necessary. The rules for cataloging nonprint media take account of certain attributes of the materials and of the conditions under which they are generally catalogued and used. These rules are designed for the treatment of nontheatrical AV's of the most common kinds. This guide follows the standard library cataloging practices as far as they are applicable to the cataloging of AV'S. The "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules" have been expanded and modified when necessary in order to include all elements required for thorough cataloging of nonbook materials. These rules can be adapted for cataloging special types of AV's and aggregations of AV's assembled for special purposes. (Author/NH)
Body fluids II urinary concentration and dilution by Howard S Frazier( Visual )

1 edition published in 1974 in English and held by 41 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this presentation is to describe and illustrate the mechanisms which regulate the urinary concentration and dilution and the physiological response to an excess or lack of water. This objective is achieved with the aid of diagrams, drawings and structural formulas. A pre- and posttest are provided and the viewer is asked questions throughout the program. Correct answers are provided. In this presentation the transport of solute from the lumenal fluid in the loop of Henle is described. The effects of the presence of excess water and the lack of water on this solute transport is then discussed. The roles of the antidiuretic hormone and the countercurrent multiplier are described in detail. Factors responsible for the formation of an appropriately diluted or concentrated urine are identified and described. These factors include the delivery of adequate volumes of salt and water to the ascending loop of Henle, active reabsorption of salt at the ascending loop of Henle, appropriate control of the release of the antidiuretic hormone and the transport of sodium salts out of the fluid in the collecting duct when excess water is excreted. Formulas are then presented which can be used to measure osmolar clearance and free water clearance

Primer for media resources librarians by National Medical Audiovisual Center( Book )

3 editions published in 1973 in English and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Basic instructions (suggestions) are provided to help the initiate establish a resource center. The primer begins with some considerations in organizing a media resource collection which includes a brief discussion of the three basic types of media resource programs: reference only, limited acquisition, and permanent collections. This is followed by a brief examination of the factors upon which the type and scope of the program are dependent, including: need/interest, materials on hand, equipment on hand, availability of materials, budget, space, and staff. The instructions end with suggestions for locating materials and for cataloging and indexing the materials. Although this is specifically written for a medical resource center, the general suggestions could be applied to other types of film libraries. (Nh)
