The papers are composed primarily of correspondence of family members Pat F. Garrett; Polinaria Gutierrez Garrett; Patrick F. Garrett, Jr.; and Poe Garrett. Correspondents include a number of prominent southern New Mexicans. Pat F. Garrett's correspondence concerns topics such as his business interests, and his terms as sheriff of Dona Ana County and as customs collector in El Paso. Legal and financial documents contain materials regarding Garrett's businesses transactions as well as governmental concerns. Included in a series of miscellany are two documents concerning the Fountain murders, and notes related to Garrett's campaign for sheriff of Lincoln County.

Summary: Collection consists of documents concerning Parker's legal career and a folder of materials relating to Billy the Kid (William Bonney). Includes various certificates and appointments to the positions held by Parker; his attorney's docket book; and photographs of Parker with other prominent New Mexicans, including a group photo with John R. McFie, L. Bradford Prince, Miguel A. Otero, Thomas B. Catron, and others. The folder of Billy the Kid materials consists of photocopies of four 1881 documents: a death warrant signed by New Mexico Governor Lew Wallace; a note written by Sheriff Pat Garrett explaining that Bonney's death warrant was not carried out because he escaped custody; and Spanish and English versions of the coroner's jury report on the death of Bonney, July 15, 1881.
