On 26 February 1779, he informed Major Elijah Abel that the British were in full possession of Horseneck (Greenwich, Connecticut) and were marching toward Fairfield. The final letter, written from Brooklyn, Connecticut, to the County Court in Windham expressed his opposition to the opening of additional public houses
