Statistical tools for environmental quality measurement by Michael E Ginevan( )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 449 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

When interpreting environmental data, scientists and engineers first must select the correct statistical tool to use for their analysis. By doing this they will be able to make sound decisions in their efforts to solve environmental problems. They need a detailed reference that points out the subtle differences between statistical procedures, making clear what procedure to use when trying to find the answer to a specific problem. Statistical Tools for Environmental Quality Measurement provides a detailed review of statistical tools used in analyzing and addressing environmental issues. This book examines commonly-used techniques found in USEPA guidelines and discusses their potential impact on decision-making. The authors are not constrained by statistical formalism; they advise when to go outside of standard statistical models when making difficult decisions. The content is presented in a practical style that prioritizes methods that work, based upon the authors' extensive experience. The text points out that simplicity facilitates effective communication of an analysis and decision to a "consumer" of statistics. The book emphasizes the exact question that each procedure addresses, so that environmental scientists and engineers can clearly identify precisely the question they want to ask, and correctly interpret the results. Law for the expert witness by Daniel A Bronstein( Book )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 155 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Law for the Expert Witness is not discursive in nature. It deals with technical legal issues and is filled with quotes from various legal sources, particularly the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE). Since rules are merely words on paper until we see how they may be applied to real-life situations, edited versions of court decisions that show how the courts interpret the rules are provided where appropriate. Since the last edition there have, again, been changes in the law, which have necessitated this new edition. The issue of the discoverability of the expert's draft reports has been settled (in the negative) by a change to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26 discussed briefly in Chapter 2. The issue of spoliation, the destruction of evidence, has become quite important, and a discussion of this has been added to Chapter 5 and, briefly, to Chapter 10. And in Chapter 8 the list of states that follow different rules regarding who is an expert and whether that person's testimony will be admitted into evidence has been updated. In addition, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure have been reissued with new subsectioning
Assessment of rehabilitative and quality of life issues in litigation by Patricia A Murphy( Book )

The air engine : Stirling cycle power for a sustainable future by Allan J Organ( )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 135 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Two centuries after the original invention, the Stirling engine is now a commercial reality as the core component of domestic CHP (combined heat and power)--a technology offering substantial savings in raw energy utilization relative to centralized power generation. Meeting the challenge involves addressing a range of issues: a long-standing mismatch between inherently favourable internal efficiency and wasteful external heating provision; a dearth of heat transfer and flow data appropriate to the task of first-principles design; the limited rpm capability when operating with air (and nitrogen) as working fluid. The account includes previously unpublished insights into the personality and potential of two related regenerative prime movers--the pressure-wave and thermal-lag engines. --

There will be a considerable market for this book as a reference for practicing engineers who need to understand fuzzy controllers
Propagation handbook for wireless communication system design by Robert K Crane( )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 133 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Data and models for better systems design Atmospheric gases, building materials, the weather? The propagation of wireless communications signals depends upon a whole range of factors, any or all of which can have a significant impact on the quality of a signal. Data generated by careful measurement of signals propagating under various environmental conditions are therefore fundamental to designing and building efficient, robust, and economical communication systems. This handbook presents models that describe that data and make predictions for conditions that will affect operational systems. The author-chair of the science panel for the ACTS propagation experiment-focuses on EM waves of 0.3 to 300 GHz propagating through the lower atmosphere. The handbook describes the physical phenomena that can affect propagation, presents sample measurements and statistics, and provides models that system designers can use to calculate their link budgets and estimate the limitations the atmosphere could place on their designs. Communications engineers around the world need this information readily at hand, not scattered throughout the literature. For engineers and systems designers involved in communications, navigation, radar, or remote sensing, the Propagation Handbook for Wireless Communication System Design will quickly become a standard and heavily relied-upon reference
