Teacher education and the new media by Herbert Schueler( Book )

3 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 312 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Programs of teacher education in the united states were described, and the contribution of new media to these programs was analyzed. Various facets of a teacher's function were discussed in terms of desired competencies and characteristics. These facets were then assessed in relation to teacher education programs using new media as an aid to instruction. The findings indicate that expectations for new media in teacher education have either not been verified through research and experimentation or have not yet had sufficient study for proper conclusions and applications to be drawn. It was also noted that most functions of new media which are largely operational in character and therefore capable of the greatest immediate effect on the process of teacher education remain, for the most part, unproved with regard to effectiveness for teacher training. Mental abilities of children in different social and cultural groups by Gerald S Lesser( Book )

2 editions published in 1964 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Instruments previously developed to measure mental abilities in western cultures were modified and used with children from a wider range of backgrounds. Chinese, jewish, negro, and puerto rican children from the first grade were selected and divided into 2 social groups and 16 subgroups. The total sample consisted of 320 children who were tested for identification of varying intelligence abilities and cultural differences. Effort and persistence, persuasibility, and age were controlled in the analysis of covariance design. The results produced these general conclusions - social-class and ethnic-group membership have strong effects on mental abilities, and patterns once emerged do not alter within groups. (Rs)
