Jesus and Israel by Jules Isaac( Book )

Refutes the anti-Jewish beliefs that make up the Church's "teaching of contempt", which is at the root of Christian antisemitism. The teaching of contempt centers around the claim that the Jews as a people had rejected and crucified Jesus and that Jesus, in turn, had rejected and condemned the entire Jewish people, based on passages in the New Testament. Presents 21 "propositions" showing erroneous Christian views about the Jews, including the Church's denial of Jesus' Jewish identity and of Christianity's Jewish roots
Has anti-Semitism roots in Christianity? by Jules Isaac( Book )

32 editions published between 1960 and 1965 in 3 languages and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Pp. 13-44 contain a lecture, entitled "Du redressement nécessaire de l'enseignement chrétien concernant Israel", presented at a conference held on 15 December 1959 at the Sorbonne. Isaac recapitulates his views presented in "Jésus et Israël" and "Genèse de l'antisémitisme" on the role of Christianity in the development of antisemitism since the 4th century, and its fixation in Christian minds through the Church's "teaching of contempt". The exterminatory antisemitism of the 20th century, though it was also anti-Christian, had its roots in Christianity and took place on Christian soil. Pp. 49-64 contain Isaac's 18 suggestions for a revision of Christian teaching regarding the Jews, and ten points agreed upon by the International Conference of Christians and Jews, held in Seelisberg in 1947, for repudiating Christian antisemitism

Analyzes the Church's "teaching of contempt": an official, systematic, and coherent program which lies at the basis of Christian antisemitism, which is as old as Christianity itself. Its aim has been to degrade the Jewish adversary, from whose midst Christianity arose. Characterizes and rebuts the teaching's three main themes: the dispersion of the Jews as God's punishment for the crucifixion; the degenerate state of Judaism at the time of Jesus; and the Jews as a deicide people. The appendixes (pp. 137-192) relate to a controversy between Isaac and Daniel Rops, which began with the publication of Rops' "Jésus en son temps" in 1946; the abusive interpretation of New Testament texts with regard to the cursing of Israel; and a list of propositions for Isaac's book "Jésus et Israël"
