Presidential elections, 1789-2008 : county, state, and national mapping of election data by Donald Richard Deskins( Book )

5 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 361 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Presidential Elections is an almanac of the popular vote in every presidential election in American history, analyzed at the county level with histories of each campaign, graphs, and stunning four-color maps. Most Americans are familiar with the crude red state/blue state maps used by commentators and campaign strategists---and even, for want of an alternative, by many academics. In providing a higher-resolution view of voting behavior the authors of this new volume enable examination of local and regional political trends that are invisible in state-level aggregations." "Presidential Elections will enable scholars to more subtly analyze voting behavior, campaigns, and presidential politics; commentators will use it to analyze trends and trace the historical evolution of new coalitions and voting blocs; strategists will use it to plan campaigns and mobilize constituencies. Presidential Elections will become the standard almanac on the subject: a required resource for academic and public libraries, as well as for scholars, consultants, and pundits nationwide."--Jacket
The African American electorate : a statistical history by Hanes Walton( Book )

15 editions published between 2011 and 2015 in English and held by 286 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"How have African Americans voted over time? What types of candidates and issues have been effective in drawing people to vote? These are just two of the questions that The African American Electorate: A Statistical History attempts to answer by bringing together all of the extant, fugitive and recently discovered registration data on African-American voters from Colonial America to the present. This pioneering work also traces the history of the laws dealing with enfranchisement and disenfranchisement of African Americans and provides the election return data for African-American candidates in national and sub-national elections over this same time span."--Publisher's information
Minority recruitment data : an analysis of baccalaureate degree production in the United States by Donald Richard Deskins( Book )

4 editions published between 1983 and 1984 in English and held by 238 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book identifies institutions where significant numbers of Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Native Americans receive their baccalaureate degrees. The information is provided in order to assist universities and businesses in recruiting minority candidates for professional positions, and to counter the prevelant idea that there is no available pool of minority students for such positions. The primary source of information is the 1978-79 Higher General Information Survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Education. The book is organized to facilitate recruitment strategies. The data are broken down by minority groups and then further by 24 disciplinary divisions; both minority group and discipline are broken down by state and by institution. Information is also given on the proximity of each institution to an airport. The data show that in 1978-79 10.8% of the baccalaureates conferred went to minorities, of which percentage 60.8% went to Blacks, 20.3% to Hispanics, 15.5% to Asians, and 3.4% to Native Americans. The states producing the largest number of minority baccalaureates were found to be California, New York, Texas, and Florida in that order. (Cg)
