Camargo Guarnieri (1907-1993) is the best-known Brazilian composer after his older contemporary Heitor Villa-Lobos. Guarnieri composed in a nationalist style that combined a conservative but contemporary musical language with melodies and rhythms inspired by folk and popular materials. In addition to his numerous compositions for voice, symphony, and piano, he was very active as a teacher and administrator in Sao Paolo." "Verhaalen's first book-length study of Gaurnieri was published in Brazil, in Portuguese, by the University of Sao Paulo. The English version is revised and shortened to serve as an overview of his life and works. The book includes a CD compilation of some of Guarnieri's best-known works."--BOOK JACKET+-+6029988075212ocn047727169book20010.95Camargo Guarnieri : o tempo e a músicaCriticism, interpretation, etc162ocn030718208book19910.98Wolff, Marcus StraubelModernismo nacionalista na música brasileira : Camargo Guarnieri e Oscar Lorenzo Fernândez nos anos 30 e 40Criticism, interpretation, etc141ocn007546643book19770.94Camargo Guarnieri : catálogo de obrasBibliography82ocn051203568book20010.94Verhaalen, MarionCamargo Guarnieri : expressões de uma vidaCriticism, interpretation, etc53ocn006327721mix19710.92Verhaalen, MarionThe solo piano music of Francisco Mignone and Camargo GuarnieriBiographyWhat the two men rightfully share is the claim to have carried, with Villa-Lobos, the burden of musical creativity through a very concentrated period of history in which national elements were incorporated into the body of serious concert music in Brazil. The national movement was given its thrust by the theorist, [Mr̀io] de Andrade, in the 1920's and was then actually realized in the music of Villa-Lobos, Mignone, and Guarnieri. That this time of national preoccupation has passed is obvious; that it had to be, however, is undeniable. Thus both Mignone and Guarnieri have served an important function in the cultural and musical development of their country. It is also this writer's conclusion that their works will continue to survive on their own merits over and above the historical importance which they have53ocn047219764book20000.96Smith, Kristen LiaThe influence of folk and popular music on twentieth-century flute music of Brazil52ocn055911390book20000.92Três estudos analíticos : Villa-Lobos, Mignone e Camargo Guarnieri42ocn122276770book20030.97Hamilton, Sarah MaliaUma canção interessada M.
