"Set in nineteenth-century England, this gothic ghost story centers around a governess taking care of two orphans in a foreboding Victorian mansion. As eerie apparitions appear and the children's behavior becomes strange, the governess begins to wonder about the fate of the previous governess and her sadistic lover. Could it be that their restless spirits are trying to corrupt the innocence of the children, or is this 'haunting' a product of her own fears and imagination?"--Container

The pumpkin eater by Jack Clayton( Visual )

19 editions published between 1964 and 2017 in English and held by 145 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Anne Bancroft's cathartic lead performance anchors The Pumpkin Eater, Harold Pinter's harrowing, elliptical tale of marital dissatisfaction. Though much of the film concerns her character's fitful bouts with depression, Bancroft charges every moment she's onscreen, employing an array of subtle gestures and facial expressions to convey what her repressed character cannot. Pinter and director Jack Clayton never resort to facile satire or pat assignations of blame; instead, the film charts the slow, irreversible manner in which a chasm can grow between husband and wife. As Bancroft's callous husband, Peter Finch perfectly conveys the subtle, damaging hypocrisies that eventually break his wife's spirit. James Mason has a particularly memorable supporting role as a vitriolic, passive-aggressive acquaintance of the couple

Der grosse Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald( Visual )

18 editions published between 1974 and 2016 in 3 languages and held by 35 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

I am a camera by Henry Cornelius( Visual )

5 editions published between 1955 and 2004 in English and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Apart from being based on the same material as Cabaret (a theatrical adaptation of Isherwood's Berlin stories), this film is notable for providing the third of a trio of roles (the others were in Member of the Wedding and East of Eden) for Julie Harris to make her mark on the screen in the early to mid fifties. She plays the half-courtesan Sally Bowles opposite Harvey's Isherwood with wit and intelligence, a role she had also played on the New York stage. By general concensus I Am a Camera is less successful in portraying the amoral, twilight world of Berlin during the last days of Weimar and the unconventional relationship between Bowles and Isherwood, repressing the latter's gayness. As it was, the film ran into censorship problems in the U.S.A. Isherwood harshly dismissed it as "digusting ... near pornographic trash"
