Josef Sudek, poet of Prague : a photographer's life by Anna Fárová( Book )
11 editions published in 1990 in English and Undetermined and held by 628 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In a career that spanned nearly seven decades, Josef Sudek, one of the masters of twentieth-century photography, created his own solitary world of shadow and light, of theme and variation. Exquisitely reproduced in tritone, the more than one hundred images in this monograph convey the spirit of Prague as well as the spirit of Sudek. The photographs are complemented with a text by Anna Farova, one of the foremost photography curators and writers in Eastern Europe and a longtime friend of Sudek's. She traces his life and work, beginning with the devastation of World War I, in which he lost an arm, through his development as a photographer and a central figure in Prague's artistic life. Sudek's passionate, impressionist images, as well as his penchant for exploration, earned him the affectionate title "Poet of Prague."

Josef Sudek : the legacy of a deeper vision by Josef Sudek( Book )
3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 149 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"During a legendary career that spanned 60 years, twentieth-century Czech photographer Josef Sudek demonstrated a craftsmanship and technical virtuosity that was unparalleled among his contemporaries. HIs approach to photography, characterized by its representation of light, still resonates today. Early in his career, Sudek was aware of Cubism, Surrealism, the Czech avant-garde and other prevailing art movements of the 1920s and 1930s, yet he ultimately sought his own form of expression. HIs photographs possess a contemplative quality, infusing ordinary subjects with poignancy and transforming his observations into timeless visual poems. The Legacy of a Deeper Vision presents more than 175 photographs from the Art Gallery of Ontario's collection, and takes us on a complex autobiographical journey of Sudek's art, life and indomitable spirit. This catalogue features essays from the foremost writers on Sudek's work, including photo-historian and curator Antonín Dufek, Canadian Art editor Richard Rhodes, photographer Goeffrey James and AGO curator Maia-Mari Sutnik. It also contains excerpts from John Banville's Prague Pictures: Portraits of a City and a chronology of this remarkable photographer by the late Anna Fárová, to whose memory the exhibition is dedicated. These photographs cover every stage of Sudek's career, revealing his imagination, versatility and a lifelong quest for mastery of his photographic vision."--Page 2 of cover

Prague panoramic by Josef Sudek( Book )
3 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
No other cycle of Josef Sudek's photos depicts the artist's beloved city as a record of many Prague localities as nostalgic witnesses to the passage of time. The elongated format of his photographs enabled him not only to command a truly panoramic view of Prague: he himself was probably surprised by the resultant optic deformations whose distinctly expressive tinge offered by his old Kodak camera provided him with a golden opportunity of evoking--in his unique style--the rendition of various forms by his older friends--Czech cubists.--From book jacket
