Bassist Scott Colley, saxophonist-flutist Gary Thomas and drummer Teri Lyne Carrington round out the band, demonstrating and helping define how solid Osby's own musical conception is. Osby shows the dual influence of Steve Coleman's M-BASE collective--where he made his creative home during the 1980s and '90s--and of Eric Dolphy, who worked with pianist Hill in the '60s. Hill's pointillism illuminates his enigmatic composition "Ashes," and his duets with Osby on both takes of "The Watcher" ring with a Debussy-like impressionism. Hall's hushed tones provide the right harmonic settings on "Sanctus" and the Latin-tinged "Who Needs Forever." Osby's sharp and flowing lines paint new algorithmic versions of Fats Waller's classic "Jitterbug Waltz" (a Dolphy favorite) and the standards "Indiana" and "Nature Boy." On those tracks Osby and company play the past and sound like the future. --Eugene Holley, Jr44040ocn019401524rcrd19620.29Evans, BillUndercurrent1: My funny Valentine (alternate take) 6:52; 2: My Funny valentine 5:19; 3: I hear a rhapsody 4:35; 4: Dream Gypsy 4:30; 5: Stairway to the Stairs 6:35; 6: I'm Getting Sentimental over you 4:13; 7: Roman 5:18; 8: Romain (Alternate Take) 5:22; 9: Skating in Central Park 5:17; 10: Darn that Dream 5:0536916ocn041415894rcrd19990.20Hall, JimJim Hall & Pat Metheny30226ocn054886778rcrd19620.27Rollins, SonnyThe bridge2795ocn742529614rcrd20110.18Rollins, SonnyRoad showsSaxophone music (Jazz)JazzJazz great Sonny Rollins presents a CD featuring material recorded during his 2010 tour of Japan as well as tracks from his 80th birthday concert in New York27631ocn039231594rcrd19750.28Hall, JimConciertoGuitar music (Jazz)2675ocn029235657rcrd19930.27Fitzgerald, EllaThe complete Ella in Berlin Mack the knife24122ocn018730136rcrd19660.50Evans, BillIntermodulation2344ocn030599618rcrd19930.37Coleman, OrnetteBeauty is a rare thing the complete Atlantic recordings22313ocn024509129rcrd19570.28Jimmy Giuffre 3The Jimmy Giuffre 31996ocn056066711rcrd19860.25Kronos QuartetMusic of Bill Evans17614ocn007123239rcrd19800.28Previn, AndréA different kind of blues an album of jazz1702ocn050576594rcrd20020.24Ellington, Duke1969 all-star White House tribute to Duke Ellington1674ocn044599651rcrd20000.27Coleman, OrnetteThe complete science fiction sessions1594ocn017636338rcrd19870.59Evans, BillThe complete Riverside recordings1542ocn463619756visu20090.37Farmer, ArtArt Farmer live in '64Spectacle musical enregistré pour la télévision britannique le 6 juin 196414913ocn019211678rcrd19620.33Evans, BillInterplayCompact disc14610ocn034060796rcrd19630.37Hartman, JohnnyI just dropped by to say hello1423ocn049707785rcrd20020.20Carmichael, HoagyStardust the Bill Charlap Trio plays the music of Hoagy Carmichael1371ocn074175350rcrd20060.12Christmas break relaxing jazz for the holidays321ocn527366113book20020.27Contemporary musicians. profiles of the people in musicBiographyProvides comprehensive information on musicians and groups from around the world.
