Tells the story of a Danish marshland farmer, Morten Börgen (Malberg) and his three sons: Mikkel (Christensen), who is filled with religious doubts; Anders (Kristiansen), who is involved in a romance with a woman of a different faith; and the central character Johannes (Ledorff-Rye), who believes himself to be Jesus. His extreme devotion is passed off as madness until he is visited by the Holy Spirit. This miraculous happening is followed by the resurrection of Mikkel's dead wife. At the end of the film, Mikkel, with his wife at his side, has returned to the faith and Anders is given permission to marry the girl he desires.
