Das 1999 im HaffmannsVerlag als gebundene Ausgabe publizierte und bei seinem Erscheinen von der Presse einhellig gelobte Buch des Freiburger Philosophen L. Lütkehaus (vgl. zuletzt "Schwarze Ontologie", ID 31/02) in einer preiswerten Taschenbuchausgabe (Erstausgabe hier nicht angezeigt). In einem 750 (!) Seiten langen Gang durch die abendländische Philosophiegeschichte, vornehmlich die des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts, stellt er die verschiedenen Repräsentanten des nihilistischen Denkens vor: Philosophen wie Kant, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Heidegger u.a.; aber auch literarische Figuren wie etwa Hiob, Mephisto, Hamlet oder Danton. Er kritisiert deren inkonsequentes Verhaftetbleiben in der abendländischen, insbesondere der christlichen Traditionen des am Sein fixierten Denkens, das das Nichts verteufelt und Ursache für hysterische Betriebsamkeit in der Moderne ist. Dagegen setzt er einen "vollendeten Nihilismus", der das Nichts radikal annimmt und so zu weniger Lebensangst und mehr Gelassenheit führt. Als geistreiches und brillant geschriebenes Standardwerk zum philosophischen Nihilismus empfohlen. (3)
