Anatomy of the New Testament; a guide to its structure and meaning by Robert A Spivey( Book )

46 editions published between 1969 and 2014 in English and held by 1,961 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

On the assumption that the reader will want to know what the New Testament is about, what its authors intended to say, we have sought to direct his attention to the text of the New Testament itself. In order to help him come to a more than superficial or second-hand understanding, we have dealt extensively with representative texts from the various New Testament books. Working outward from these texts, we have then endeavored to display and illumine the character and movement of the different writings. - Preface
The Study of religion in two-year colleges( Book )

3 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 147 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication is the culmination of a project begun in late January of 1974. The first stage was to determine the present status of the study of religion in two year colleges within the United States, using a questionnaire and supplementing that, in some cases, with a look at catalogues or course bulletins. The second stage was to develop different models for beginning courses in religion. The final stage reports both the results of the inventory and the course models, together with some introductory chapters and explanatory comments

Because religion has greatly influenced the course of U.S. history and because it continues to have an impact on U.S. life, an examination of its role is a necessary part of social studies. In order to understand U.S. society, citizens must know something about the development of the religious ideas, practices, and institutions found in the United States today. Ten topics are presented: (1) "Why Go to the New World?"; (2) "Conformity or Diversity"; (3) "The American Revolution: a Religious War?"; (4) "Subsidy or Separation?"; (5)"The Churches on the American Frontier"; (6) "Black Americans and the Churches"; (7) "Religion: Personal and Social"; (8) "Ways of Understanding: Science and Religion"; (9) "Conscience or Constitution?"; And (10) "America: Protestant or Pluralist?" Each of these studies utilizes primary sources that treat a significant religious dimension of U.S. history. These readings are preceded by a short introduction to the topic under consideration and questions to help the reader focus on the major points and identify the central considerations. The document is illustrated with numerous black and white photographs. (Jb)
