In his dedication Hippolyte de Lalyman de Varennes presents King Otho I of Greece with a history of women. The seemingly incomplete work focuses on ancient Greece and Rome and offers four historical periods, ending with the destruction of the Persian empire. The apparent author of the work is not Hippolyte de Lalyman but rather Guillaume Henri Charles Goyon d'Arsac, whose manuscript was donated to the library of the Berlin Royal Academy (Pickering & Chatto)
