It is the story of four generations of a singular family, living in a house that is many houses on the magical border of an otherworld. It is a story of fantastic love and heartrending loss; of impossible things and unshakable destinies; and of the great Tale that envelops us all. It is a wonder

Lord Byron's novel : the evening land by John Crowley( Book )

15 editions published between 2005 and 2013 in English and Spanish and held by 814 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

On a stormy night at Lord Byron's Swiss villa, Mary Shelley challenged her host, her husband and herself to write a ghost story. Mary's, of course, became Frankenstein. Byron supposedly soon gave up his--but, Crowley asks, what if he didn't? The result is this brilliant gothic novel of manners enclosed in two frames. In one, Byron's manuscript comes into the hands of Ada, his daughter by his estranged wife. Ada, in reality, became famous as a proto-cyberneticist, having collaborated on mathematician Charles Babbage's "difference engine." In Crowley's novel, Ada ciphers Byron's work into a kind of code in order to keep it from her mother. The second frame consists of the contemporary discovery of Ada's notes on Byron's story by Alexandra Novak, who's researching Ada for a Web site dedicated to the history of women in science. Alex is, a little too conveniently, the estranged daughter of a Byron scholar and filmmaker; her interest in Ada dovetails with her father's interest in Byron, and she's fascinated by the notes and the code both
Four freedoms by John Crowley( Book )

In the early years of the 1940s, as the nation's young men ship off to war, the call goes out for builders of the machinery necessary to defeat the enemy. To this purpose, a city has sprung up seemingly overnight in the windswept fields of Oklahoma: the Van Damme airplane factory, a gargantuan complex dedicated to the construction of the B-30 Pax, the largest bomber ever built. Some men, but mostly women, many of whom have never operated a rivet gun or held a screwdriver, flock to this place eager to earn, to grow, to do their part. Many are away from home for the very first time, enticed by the opportunity to be something more than wife and homemaker. In the middle of nowhere they will live, work, and earn their own money, fearing for the safety of their absent fighting men as the world around them changes forever.--From publisher's description

He tells the story of his impossible lives and deaths to a man who has learned his language in this exquisite novel which unravels like a fireside fable, by award-winning author John Crowley. In Ka we see how young Dar Oakley went down into the human underworld long before Julius Caesar came into the Celtic lands, and there got hold of the immortality meant for humans; how he sailed West to America with the Irish monks searching for the Paradise of the Saints; how again and again he went down into the lands of the dead and returned. All these beings inhabit Ka, the realm of Crows, and dwell also in Ymr, the realm where -- as Dar Oakley learns -- what humans think is so, really is so, even though we could have so much more"--
