Die Schöpfung by Joseph Haydn( )

38 editions published between 1986 and 2012 in 4 languages and held by 513 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Haydn gave birth to a new type of oratorio that reflected perfectly the spirit of his time. With German texts, direct expression of feelings and many grand choruses, it stood for the transition from the aristocracy to a bourgeois society, in which music-making in a group was seen as an expression of civil pride. Extremely popular with amateur choirs, performances with a large ensemble became the rule until well into the 20th century. And the 1960 Electrola recording represents this tradition, with a top-class trio of soloists consisting of the great Elisabeth Grummer, outstanding tenor Josef Traxel and Gottlob Frick, "the blackest of all bass singers"

Musik als Klangrede : Wege zu einem neuen Musikverständnis : Essays und Vorträge by Nikolaus Harnoncourt( Book )

76 editions published between 1982 and 2014 in 4 languages and held by 410 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
