Die unglückliche Liebe von Hector Berlioz zu einer Schauspielerin führte in nur 2 Monaten 1830 zur Komposition seiner Symphony fantastique. Sie gehört inzwischen zu den wohl populärsten Werken der klassischen Musik. Als "musikalisches Drama" mit dem Untertitel Episoden aus dem Leben eines Künstlers konzipiert, folgt das 5-sätzige Werk einem szenischen Programm, das bei der Uraufführung als Text an das Publikum verteilt wurde. Mit dieser revolutionären Neuorientierung der Form schuf Berlioz die Grundlage für das Genre der sinfonischen Dichtung, die im Lauf des 19. Jahrhunderts viele Meisterwerke hervorbrachte. Gekoppelt ist die Fantastische Sinfonie mit der viel gespielten, temperamentvollen Ouvertüre Römischer Karneval aus der Oper Benvenuto Cellini. Die Fantastische Sinfonie ist unverzichtbar für alle Bibliotheken, diese Interpretation von Jos van Immerseel und dem Ensemble Anima Eterna Brugge auf historischen Instrumenten ziert jeden Bestand
