Dynamic programming and optimal control by
Dimitri P Bertsekas(
Book
)
49 editions published between 1995 and 2012 in English and Italian and held by 575 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The leading and most uptodate textbook on the farranging algorithmic methododogy of Dynamic Programming, which can be used for optimal control, Markovian decision problems, planning and sequential decision making under uncertainty, and discrete/combinatorial optimization. The treatment focuses on basic unifying themes, and conceptual foundations. It illustrates the versatility, power, and generality of the method with many examples and applications from engineering, operations research, and other fields. It also addresses extensively the practical application of the methodology, possibly through the use of approximations, and provides an extensive treatment of the farreaching methodology of NeuroDynamic Programming/Reinforcement Learning. The first volume is oriented towards modeling, conceptualization, and finitehorizon problems, but also includes a substantive introduction to infinite horizon problems that is suitable for classroom use. The second volume is oriented towards mathematical analysis and computation, treats infinite horizon problems extensively, and provides an uptodate account of approximate largescale dynamic programming and reinforcement learning. The text contains many illustrations, workedout examples, and exercises."Publisher's website

Nonlinear programming by
Dimitri P Bertsekas(
Book
)
39 editions published between 1995 and 2016 in 3 languages and held by 515 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The third edition of the book is a thoroughly rewritten version of the 1999 2nd edition. New material was included, some of the old material was discarded, and a large portion of the remainder was reorganized or revised. This book provides a comprehensive and accessible presentation of algorithms for solving continuous optimization problems. It relies on rigorous mathematical analysis, but also aims at an intuitive exposition that makes use of visualization where possible. It places particular emphasis on modern developments, and their widespread applications in fields such as largescale resource allocation problems, signal processing, and machine learning. The book was developed through instruction at MIT, focuses on nonlinear and other types of optimization: iterative algorithms for constrained and unconstrained optimization, Lagrange multipliers and duality, large scale problems, and the interface between continuous and discrete optimization. Among its special features, the book: 1) provides extensive coverage of iterative optimization methods within a unifying framework 2) provides a detailed treatment of interior point methods for linear programming 3) covers in depth duality theory from both a variational and a geometrical/convex analysis point of view 4) includes much new material on a number of topics, such as neural network training, largescale optimization, signal processing, machine learning, and optimal control 5) includes a large number of examples and exercises detailed solutions of many of which are posted on the internet

Convex optimization theory by
Dimitri P Bertsekas(
Book
)
6 editions published between 2009 and 2011 in English and held by 71 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
An insightful, concise, and rigorous treatment of the basic theory of convex sets and functions in finite dimensions, and the analytical/geometrical foundations of convex optimization and duality theory. Convexity theory is first developed in a simple accessible manner, using easily visualized proofs. Then the focus shifts to a transparent geometrical line of analysis to develop the fundamental duality between descriptions of convex sets and functions in terms of points and in terms of hyperplanes. Finally, convexity theory and abstract duality are applied to problems of constrained optimization, Fenchel and conic duality, and game theory to develop the sharpest possible duality results within a highly visual geometric framework
