This large-format coffee-table book offers an introduction to the work of Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), master Japanese print maker and artistic force during the Edo period. The 91 spectacular color plates, reproduced from the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Collection at the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, highlight Hiroshige's refined color sense, economy of composition and delicate, never-sentimental renderings. Haiku or kyoka translations accompany most plates, and an informative introduction by Bogel gives a short history of the Edo period, describing its roots and symbolism, and placing Hiroshige and his influence in historical context

4 editions published in 2002 in English and Undetermined and held by 292 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This fascinating and visually exciting exhibition catalog reflects the more personal side of Andy Warhol's celebrity persona, that of the compulsive and obsessive collector. With a little help from Frederick Hughes and Jed Johnson, Warhol became a collector extraordinaire with an eye for everything from fine art to furniture to kitsch. This catalog chronicles the diversity of Warhol's obsession, based on the historic Sotheby's auction of his personal collection in April 1988. Essays by a range of contributors focus on Warhol's life as a collector, his important museum installations, and various collection genres. Highlighted are notable objects from art deco to Americana, including Native American and folk art, as well as jewelry and shoes, photographs and cookie jars, and his unique "time capsules."

Artist, rebel, dandy : men of fashion by Kate Irvin ( Book )
3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 232 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This book celebrates the pleasures of the sharp dressed man, from the discreet sophistication of the consummately elegant George Bryan Beau Brummell in the early 19th century to the diverse, highly personal flair of the tastemakers who color the landscape of menswear today. Since the word dandy came into vogue in London in 1813, it has at times been used to describe someone superficial, flamboyant, and self-indulgent. Instead, the dandy is here shown to employ profound thought and imagination in his self-presentation, fashioning an image that often challenges the status quo and transcends the ordinary. A series of fascinating essays traces the often contradictory definitions and images of the dandy, the history of young men and their clothes in the long 19th century, the exquisite fabrics and tailoring that play an important role in dandy style, and the relationship of black dandyism and hip-hop. In addition, this book features fifteen musings on notable dandies written by individuals who share a kinship with their subject, including Patti Smith considering Charles Baudelaire; a reflection on Oscar Wilde by his grandson, Merlin Holland; Daniela Morera, formerly part of Andy Warhol's Factory crowd, reminiscing about the artist's image; and writer Philip Hoare describing the thrift-shop dandyism of director John Waters
