Aspects de la chimie des composés macrocycliques : notes rédigées, augmentées et actualisées by J.-M Lehn( )

13 editions published between 1991 and 2014 in French and English and held by 1,102 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This work describes the emergence of techniques, their development, the flourishing of pure sciences and the evolution of concepts that led to applied sciences. It is about discovery, of how concepts originated in India, China, Japan, and how their applications impacted Europe and the world at large
Supramolecular chemistry : concepts and perspectives : a personal account built upon the George Fisher Baker lectures in chemistry at Cornell University [and] Lezioni Lincee, Accademia nazionale dei Lincei, Roma by J.-M Lehn( Book )

41 editions published between 1955 and 2011 in 3 languages and held by 704 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Molecular chemistry rules the covalent bond. Supramolecular chemistry is "chemistry beyond the molecule", whose goal is to gain control over the intermolecular non-covalent bond. It is concerned with the entities of higher complexity than molecules themselves - supramolecular species and assemblies held together and organized by means of intermolecular, binding interactions. It is a highly interdisciplinary field of science and technology, bridging chemistry with biology and physics."--BOOK JACKET. "Supramolecular chemistry embodies the creative power of chemistry. By its very essence, by its ability to create and through the beauty of its objects, chemistry is an art as well as a science. Indeed, it fashions entire new worlds that do not exist before they are shaped by the hand of the chemist, just as matter, shaped by the hand of the sculptor, becomes a work of art. This is powerfully expressed by the sculpture of Auguste Rodin on the cover picture."--BOOK JACKET
Molecular semiconductors : photoelectrical properties and solar cells by J Simon( Book )

11 editions published between 1984 and 1985 in English and German and held by 364 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"During the past thirty years considerable efforts have been made to design the synthesis and the study of molecular semiconductors. Molecular semiconductors - and more generally molecular materials - involve interactions between individual subunits which can be separately synthesized. Organic and metallo-organic derivatives are the basis of most of the molecular materials. A survey of the literature on molecular semiconductors leaves one rather confused. It does seem to be very difficult to correlate the molecular structure of these semiconductors with their experimental electrical properties. For inorganic materials a simple definition delimits a fairly homogeneous family. If an inorganic material has a conductivity intermediate between that of an 12 1 1 3 1 1 insulator « 10- n- cm- ) and that of a metal (> 10 n- cm- ), then it is a semiconductor and will exhibit the characteristic properties of this family, such as junction formation, photoconductivity, and the photovoltaic effect. For molecular compounds, such simplicity is certainly not the case. A huge number of molecular and macromolecular systems have been described which possess an intermediate conductivity. However, the various attempts which have been made to rationalize their properties have, more often than not, failed. Even very basic electrical properties such as the mechanism of the charge carrier formation or the nature and the density of the dopants are not known in detail. The study of molecular semiconductor junctions is very probably the most powerful approach to shed light on these problems"--publisher

Experiments in Green and Sustainable Chemistry by H. W Roesky( Book )

7 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 328 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Encouraging a new attitude and approach to chemistry, this is the first such collection designed for lab courses and experimental teaching. Experts from around the globe present over 40 real-life teaching experiments, all clearly structured and divided into five main principles of sustainable and green chemistry: catalysts, solvents, high yield and one-pot syntheses, limiting waste and exposure, as well as special topics."--Back cover

Les nanotechnologies by M Wautelet( Book )

7 editions published between 2003 and 2014 in English and French and held by 107 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This updated second edition puts nanotechnologies into perspective by explaining issues in health, environmental and military application domains, and discusses the technology in the context of current media and ethical debates. It also introduces the ambitious, and perhaps almost utopian, NBIC program (Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Information Technology and Cognitive Science); an initiative that foresees the 'reunification' of science by encouraging collaboration among specialists of different scientific domains [4e de couverture]
Advanced organic chemistry : reaction mechanisms by Reinhard Brückner( Book )

2 editions published in 1999 in French and held by 107 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This English edition of a best-selling and award-winning German textbook Reaction Mechanisms: Organic Reactions, Stereochemistry, Modern Synthetic Methods is aimed at those who desire to learn organic chemistry through an approach that is facile to understand and easily committed to memory. Michael Harmata, Norman Rabjohn Distinguished Professor of Organic Chemistry (University of Missouri) surveyed the accuracy of the translation, made certain contributions, and above all adapted its rationalizations to those prevalent in the organic chemistry community in the English-speaking world." "Throughout the book fundamental and advanced reaction mechanisms are presented with meticulous precision. The systematic use of red "electron-pushing arrows" allows students to follow each transformation elementary step by elementary step. Mechanisms are not only presented in the traditional contexts of rate laws and substituent effects but, whenever possible, are illustrated using practical, useful and state-of-the-art reactions. The abundance of stereoselective reactions included in the treatise makes the reader familiar with key concepts of stereochemistry." "The fundamental topics of the book address the needs of upper-level undergraduate students, while its advanced sections are intended for graduate-level audiences. Accordingly, this book is an essential learning tool for students and a unique addition to the reference desk of practicing organic chemists, who as life-long learners desire to keep abreast of both fundamental and applied aspects of our science. In addition, it will well serve ambitious students in chemistry-related fields such as biochemistry, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry."--Jacket
