Hydrogen and oxygen isotopes applied to the study of water-metal reactions exchange of D2O18 with alpha alumina monohydrate by Richard B Bernstein( )
3 editions published in 1958 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen may be useful in elucidating the mechanism of aqueous corrosion reactions, in which an important step may be diffusion of protons and/or hydroxyl for oxide) ions through a thin protective film. The technique of isotope exchange and the kinetic isotope effect both appear applicable
Deuterium-hydrogen exchange in boehmite corrosion product formed on pure aluminum in boiling water by Shirō Mori( Book )

Kinetics of isotope exchange reactions of fluorine with halogen fluorides by R. M Adams( )
2 editions published in 1953 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Quantitative kinetic data on the isotope exchange reaction of fluorine with chlorine trifluoride, bromine pentafluoride, and iodine heptafluoride have been obtained using F¹⁸ tracer. The materials were handled in a metal vacuum line, and the exchanges were carried out in the range 181-257C. While the experimental data do not uniquely determine the mechanism, they strongly suggest that exchange takes place either through a heterogeneous catalysis by the metal fluoride coating on the walls of the reaction vessel, or by a combination of the heterogeneous mechanism plus a homogeneous gas-phase exchange in those cases where a measurable amount of dissociation of the halogen fluoride occurs at the temperature of exchange. It has been shown to be unlikely that the observed exchanges take place through either an atomic mechanism or a purely homogenous mechanism. It has also been shown that all fluorine atoms in the halogen fluoride molecules are exchangeable

Making legal history : essays in honor of William E. Nelson ( Book )
1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
One of the academy's leading legal historians, William E. Nelson is the Edward Weinfeld Professor of Law at New York University School of Law. For more than four decades, Nelson has produced some of the most original and creative work on American constitutional and legal history. His prize-winning books have blazed new trails for historians with their substantive arguments and the scope and depth of Nelson's exploration of primary sources. Nelson was the first legal scholar to use early American county court records as sources of legal and social history, and his work (on legal history in Engl
Deuterium-hydrogen exchange in boehmite corrosion product formed on pure aluminum in boiling water by Shirō Mori( Book )
1 edition published in 1961 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Proton-deuteron exchange is rapid in boehmite corrosion product formed on pure aluminum in boiling water. In addition, deuterated boehmite films undergo rapid exchange with the humidity of the atmosphere. This explains the previously reported anomaly in the H-D exchange rate for the growing corrosion product on 1100 aluminum
Thomas Jefferson by Richard B Bernstein( Book )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Thomas Jefferson designed his own tombstone, describing himself simply as "Author of the Declaration of Independence and of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, and Father of the University of Virginia." It is in this simple epitaph that R.B. Bernstein finds the key to this enigmatic Founder-not as a great political figure, but as leader of "a revolution of ideas that would make the world over again." In Thomas Jefferson, Bernstein offers the definitive short biography of this revered American-the first concise life in six decades. Bernstein deftly synthesizes the massive scholarship on his subject into a swift, insightful, evenhanded account. Here are all of Jefferson's triumphs, contradictions, and failings, from his luxurious (and debt-burdened) life as a Virginia gentleman to his passionate belief in democracy, from his tortured defense of slavery to his relationship with Sally Hemings. Jefferson was indeed multifaceted-an architect, inventor, writer, diplomat, propagandist, planter, party leader-and Bernstein explores all these roles even as he illuminates Jefferson's central place in the American enlightenment, that "revolution of ideas" that did so much to create the nation we know today. Together with the less well-remembered points in Jefferson's thinking-the nature of the Union, his vision of who was entitled to citizenship, his dread of debt (both personal and national)-they form the heart of this lively biography. In this marvel of compression and comprehension, we see Jefferson more clearly than in the massive studies of earlier generations. More important, we see, in Jefferson's visionary ideas, the birth of the nation's grand sense of purpose
