Being as communion : studies in personhood and the church by Jean Zizioulas( Book )

33 editions published between 1985 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 502 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the context of a complete theology, which includes extended consideration of the major theological topics the Trinity, Christology, eschatology, ministry, and sacrament, but above all the Eucharist, Zizioulas propounds a fresh understanding, based on the early Fathers and the Orthodox tradition, of the concept of person, and so of the Church itself. His consideration of the local church as 'catholic' in the literal sense, and the need to understand the universal Church not as a superstructure but as the communion of all Churches, provides the program for the ecclesiology of the future
Communion and otherness : further studies in personhood and the church by Jean Zizioulas( Book )

19 editions published between 2006 and 2011 in 5 languages and held by 275 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Communion and otherness: how can these be reconciled? This work seeks to answer the question. It probes the Christian tradition and highlights the existential concerns that already underlay the writings of the Greek fathers and the definitions of the early ecumenical councils
Eucharist, bishop, church : the unity of the church in the divine Eucharist and the bishop during the first three centuries by Jean Zizioulas( Book )

18 editions published between 1965 and 2011 in 3 languages and held by 222 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book aims to define the relationship connecting the unity of the Church with the Eucharist and the Bishop as it was understood in the consciousness of the early Church. Written as the author's doctoral dissertation in 1965 for the University of Athens, the issues raised in this work are as relevant today as when Zizioulas first presented them. Zizioulas presents an episcopocentric structure of the Church as normative, constituted in the essential role of the bishop as president of the Divine Liturgy and the eucharistic community. This assertion, still novel when Zizioulas first described it, is widely accepted and forms the core concept of "eucharistic ecclesiology." Neverless, Eucharist, Bishop, Church continues to challenge many contemporary notions about the relationship of bishop and presbyter, parish and diocese, and local and universal church. --from back cover

The eucharistic communion and the world by Jean Zizioulas( Book )

6 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 132 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The theology of John Zizioulas presents a beautiful vision of the Church as Eucharistic communion, in which human persons both are gathered into Jesus Christ and are sent back into the world. In his previous books, Zizioulas focused on the way this communion is related to the communion of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, which calls us to understand being as communion and provides the only foundation for otherness and identity. With its sustained attention directly to the Eucharistic communion, this volume provides the context for those discussions. Zizioulas here explores the biblical dimensions

The Eucharist; Pasch of God's people by J.-M.-R Tillard( Book )

4 editions published in 1970 in French and held by 53 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Our purpose in writing this book is simply to underscore the roots of traditional truth in ecclesiology and sacramental theology: 'The Eucharist makes the Church.' Investigation undertaken since the time of our theological studies at Saulchoir has gradually led us to realize that the usual explanation of this truth was somewhat lacking with respect to the richness of revelation and, in particular, in showing how the diverse effects of the sacrament of the Body of Christ unite directly in the edification of the ecclesial Body of the Lord. It is our aim to show this unification." [Introduction]
