In defense of a nation : servicewomen in World War II( Book )

4 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 545 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A history of American servicewomen in WW2 and their often unacknowledged but heroic performance. Only the Army (Army Nurse Corps) was less than reluctant to engage women in any form of service equality. The Navy, Coast Guard and Marines were slow to come on board. For much of WW2 black servicewomen had to serve in segregated units. Holm explains the fact that the military relaxed many provisos during and after the war reflected the respect women gained in nursing, reserves, air force service, and auxiliary tasks like the American Red Cross, the United Service Organization, the Public Health Service, and the Cadet Nurse Corps

Knowledge management in the space industry( )

4 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The goal of this e-book is to report on the knowledge management activities taking place within the space industry. This special issue provides a valuable insight into selecting and implementing KM strategies for an organization. A general theme drawn from the papers is that KM needs to be tied to the core issues and business drivers for that company or field. It is a common mistake for organizations to assume that KM solutions are "one-size-fits-all"; however, evidence from the space agency case studies suggests that each solution needs to tailored for each organization. The papers chosen for this special issue cover three main themes: cultural and organizational aspects of KM in the space industry, evolution of knowledge from long-duration space missions, and implementing lesson learned for space projects
The rise of avatars in positive psychology( )

1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"To be sure, even with precision weapon systems offered by modern warfare technology, the warrior remains the most lethal weapon system on the modern battlefield, and is pivotal in the decision chain to know, decide and act wisely and decisively. For that reason, the apex of decisive advantage with force is ultimately dependent on the quality of how future warriors are developed in strengths of character in support of battle-wise sense making and performance. As I step back onto the tour boat and look once more at the monument to Leonidas and the 300 Spartans off in the distance, I sense others will come this way to learn from the past to better shape the future. "Stranger, tell the future that we behaved as they would wish us to.""--Conclusion
