Dynamics--the geometry of behavior by Ralph Abraham( Book )

57 editions published between 1981 and 1999 in English and held by 979 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Manifolds, tensor analysis, and applications by Ralph Abraham( Book )

42 editions published between 1983 and 2013 in 3 languages and held by 944 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this book is to provide core material in nonlinear analysis for mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and mathematical biologists. The main goal is to provide a working knowledge of manifolds, dynamical systems, tensors, and differential forms. Some applications to Hamiltonian mechanics, fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, plasma dynamics and control theory are given using both invariant and index notation. The prerequisites required are solid undergraduate courses in linear algebra and advanced calculus

Chaos, gaia, eros : a chaos pioneer uncovers the three great streams of history by Ralph Abraham( Book )

6 editions published between 1994 and 2011 in English and held by 346 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this eclectic and interdisciplinary work, chaos pioneer Ralph Abraham traces the history of consciousness through a rediscovery of the three forces that drive it: chaos, gaia, and eros-the mind, body and spirit of evolution. With startling originality and clarity of vision, Abraham employs photographs, timelines, charts, and an engaging format to sweep the reader along on this wild ride through math, science, mythology, philosophy, and whole of history
Chaos in discrete dynamical systems : a visual introduction in 2 dimensions by Ralph Abraham( Book )

22 editions published in 1997 in English and Undetermined and held by 319 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Chaos in Discrete Dynamical Systems covers topics in chaos theory, bifurcations and critical curves in a visual, 2-dimensional context. This unique publication is the culmination of a three-year experiment in electronic publishing. As such, it is a package comprised of three carefully intertwined components: a printed book, a cross-platform CD-ROM and a website. The extensively illustrated book is the primary component. The CD-ROM is mainly devoted to presenting 12 computer graphic animations in full color, all tied directly into the content of the book. The user interface to the CD-ROM is made in the style of the world wide web. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with the web site dedicated to this project. This site is maintained by the Visual Math Institute, UC Santa Cruz: http://www.vismath.org/chaos. Motivation for this ambitious package is the conviction that this style of electronic publishing is the ideal medium for mathematical communication. This is especially true for the branch of mathematics known as dynamical systems theory. The essence of this communicative style is the dynapic technique, in which a drawing is developed stroke-by-stroke, along with a carefully coordinated spoken commentary. This is the traditional method used by most mathematicians when speaking among themselves. Visual Math!

This book is an authoritative and unique reference for the history of chaos theory, told by the pioneers themselves. It also provides an excellent historical introduction to the concepts. There are eleven contributions, and six of them are published here for the first time - two by Steve Smale, three by Yoshisuke Ueda, and one each by Ralph Abraham, Edward Lorenz, Christian Mira, Floris Takens, T Y Li and James A Yorke, and Otto E Rossler. Contents: On How I Got Started in Dynamical Systems 1959-1962 (S Smale); Finding a Horseshoe on the Beaches of Rio (S Smale); Strange Attractors and the Ori
