Goya : images of women by Francisco Goya( Book )

16 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 831 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Francisco Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) created magnificent paintings, tapestry designs, prints, and drawings over the course of his long and productive career. Women frequently appeared as the subjects of Goya's works, from his brilliantly painted cartoons for the Royal Tapestry Factory to his stunning portraits of some of the most powerful women in Madrid. This book is the first to examine the representations of women within Goya's multifaceted art, and in so doing, it sheds new light on the evolution of his artistic creativity as well as the roles assumed by women in late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Spain."--Jacket

The Spanish painter, draughtsman and sculptor Antonio Lopez Garcia is so widely celebrated for the staggering exactitude of his painterly realism that it's sometimes easy to neglect the magical, delicate atmospheres he conjures through his technical abilities. His paintings of what in anyone else's hands would seem the blandest subject matter imaginable--a blank wall, a coat hook, a kitchen sink, the interior of a refrigerator--teem with an infused, loving scrutiny that betrays the months and years of labor the artist devotes to each work

13 editions published in 1979 in 3 languages and held by 97 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

English:  This work is considered to be the first treatise on Spanish painting in as much as it was conceived as the first update in Spain that systematically brought together the main doctrines and practices that had been circulating in Italy since the Renaissance. Vicente Carducho wanted to systematise the learning and technique of a profession that, far from the values of craftwork, was dignified by the intellectual and theoretical effort involved in the training and creative process, and for the new function demanded by artists in society. The work is divided into eight dialogues between a master (Carducho himself) and his disciple, in an arrangement that dates back to Classical Greece. Its testimony for getting to know the main picture collections of the court at that time is particularly interesting

17 editions published between 2009 and 2013 in Spanish and held by 96 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

18 editions published between 1979 and 2009 in Spanish and held by 96 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
